Hello Maleny folks... some disappointing news for the local pool.

We were excited about the forthcoming season, especially following a great last season, but we have been advised that Royal Lifesaving Australia has updated the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations on 1/7/23 making it a requirement that a lifeguard must be on pool deck at all times. These new requirements would make it unfeasable for our pool to operate under current funding conditions. The pool manager has advised that running costs would more than double, and that without employing extra staff they are not able to be insured.

The council are not able to provide extra funds under the current grant and so we are sadly unable to open the pool to the public this season. We have heard that other small pools are facing the same issue.

We acknowledge that this is disappointing to the Maleny community and recognise the support for the pool. It was great to see regular lap swimmers, squad and aqua aerobics as well as the benefits of local learn to swim offered last season.

The contract details have been finalised and we are delighted to warmly welcome Dennye Mosley as new coach/manager. The Maleny pool will be open as soon as the immediate safety compliance standards are met.

We wish to thank everyone who has supported the Maleny Swimming Club as we have worked our way to getting the pool ready to be reopened. A further update regarding this will follow in the week. Stay tuned for details…

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the person contracted to open our pool to the community for the summer swimming season is unable to meet this commitment. We must now explore options to recruit a lifeguard/coach/manager ASAP. We understand this is very disappointing news for the many people who were looking forward to the season starting. We are disappointed too. The position will be advertised on the Swimming Coaches & Teachers Australia website.

Re: Opening of Maleny Pool.
There is good news and bad news...
We are excited to announce that Anita from Water Resist will be opening the pool - offering public swimming, learn to swim, squad and a range of aqua fitness activities. She will be ready to go from 29th August 2022.
Unfortunately, this means we won't be opening this week as anticipated. We are still trying to recruit a casual lifeguard so that we can open over the next few months. We'll keep you posted.

Hi all
We are currently negotiating with someone who we think would be great for the pool. The person who is employed as manager has to meet criteria set out by Sunshine Coast Council who have provided the funding and Ed Qld as the pool is on their property, so it's not a simple matter of just employing a lifeguard. We are really hopeful we will have some good news to share very soon.
