We have “Bin” wanting to talk to you! 🚮

Requesting bins. There are few reasons why our community request bins and we want to let you know why you would need them and how to go about requesting them.

🏠 New house or property
If you have built a new house or moved into a property that does not have an existing bin collection, you may need to request a new bin collection service. If this is you, please contact us. Fees apply. If you are a tenant, please speak to your property manager or owner as they will need to submit an application form.

🗑️ Additional bins
We encourage making the most of your bin collections by sorting your waste, not only can this minimise the amount per bin, but it can keep recyclable materials in circulation to reduce what ends up in landfill. It’s a small action that can have a big impact on the environment. If you still require an additional bin, you can apply for an additional organics, recycling, or general waste bin to be collected with your regular rubbish collection. There is an additional fee each year for each extra bin.

ℹ️ Application process
To apply for a new service or additional bin, please complete the form on our website. If you have applied for an additional bin, we will review your application. This may involve a waste audit to determine if waste is being managed appropriately and that the extra service is necessary. If your application is approved, you will receive an invoice for the relevant bin collection service fees, or a pro-rata amount, in accordance with our current financial year’s Schedule of Fees and Charges. After the first invoice, the new service will appear on your rates notice under ‘Waste Charge’ or ‘Additional Bin’.
If you are a tenant, please speak to your property manager or owner as they will need to submit an application form.

Are you a resident or visitor of Middle Beach? 🏖️🚤🎣

Middle Beach is one of our popular coastal towns that is utilised year-round, offering recreational activities and lifestyle in an environment that is highly valued. We want feedback from the people that know it best, our residents and visitors.

Feedback received will help to finalise the Middle Beach Settlement Plan and inform future activities. You can provide feedback on any part of the plan.

ℹ️ The purpose of the Middle Beach Settlement Plan is to identify strategies and actions to:
- Increase the benefits of lifestyle and sustainability of Middle Beach for residents and visitors
- Plan Middle Beach to integrate and align with planning for Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary National Park - Winaityinaityi Pangkara.

We’re hosting an event for Nature Festival this year! 🍃
Samphire, Seed and Slender-Billed Thornbills🌿

Samphire, Seed and Slender-Billed Thornbills, a visual, tactile and educational morning spent alongside coastal experts.

This experience highlights the importance of conserving an area like Port Gawler with its unique yet vulnerable flora and fauna. Make “Saltmarsh seed balls” and be guided through an educational morning amongst the Samphire. If you would like to get involved and learn more about our landscapes, unique ecosystems, Slender-Billed Thornbills and various native plants, bookings are open now!

Thank You, Adelaide Plains Volunteers!

To recognise the incredible contribution our volunteers make to our community, we are having a Volunteer Appreciation Week from 21-27 September 2026.

Volunteers are invited to enjoy a free hot drink and sweet treat (up to $12) at participating local businesses in Dublin, Mallala and Two Wells.
• Community groups can organise vouchers for members, making it the perfect excuse for a catch-up together.
• Vouchers can be collected from the Adelaide Plains Library - Two Wells.
• Numbers are limited.

Recently, our team has been involved in the rollout of a biological control program targeting African Boxthorn (Lycium ferocissimum), a declared w**d that has become well established across various parts of our district 🌿

As part of this initiative, the National Parks and Wildlife Service team from the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary – Winaityinaityi Pangkara joined Green Adelaide and CSIRO to release a fungal rust, Puccinia rapipes, as a natural biological control agent.

While a range of management methods are available for controlling African Boxthorn, this fungal rust offers a targeted, long-term approach to reducing the w**d's impact. Trial results have shown it can reduce fruit and seed production by up to 63%, helping to limit the spread of this invasive species across coastal and agricultural landscapes where it is particularly problematic.

We look forward to monitoring the progress over the next three years! 🔍👀

Scan the QR code on your quarter 1 rates notice, validate your phone number, and select a payment option that works for you with Payble. Need help setting it up? Drop into your nearest Council office during opening hours for assistance.
➡️If you have previously set up a payment plan through Payble, please check to ensure your payment plan is still current for the 2026/27 financial year, especially if you have previously set up a fixed plan arrangement.
➡️ Struggling to make your payments on time? Please contact us as soon as possible, even if you can’t pay when you make the call. We can discuss alternative payment arrangements, including payment plans or extensions. If you call us before the payment is due to arrange an extension, then no fines or interest will apply during the period of an agreed extension.

Five regional local government associations – representing 46 of the State’s 68 councils – have united behind a shared vision for council funding reform ahead of national public hearings in Adelaide and Port Lincoln last week.

Presenting to the Parliamentary inquiry into local government funding and fiscal sustainability this week, all five regional LGAs recommend that the Federal Government:
- Restores Financial Assistance Grants Funding to at least 1% of Commonwealth taxation revenue
- Progressively move away from competitive grant funding programs towards fairer, formula-based models
- Recognise and fund the increasing breadth of functions councils are being asked to perform.
