Stronger Together: A New Chapter for Lotus and New Beginnings

Lotus Support & Counselling Services and New Beginnings Outreach Centre Ltd are pleased to announce a new partnership arrangement aimed at strengthening support services for vulnerable people across the Mandurah community.

Although Lotus will soon be winding up as an incorporated association, our services in the community will continue, operated by New Beginnings Outreach Centre Ltd. This collaborative approach has been formed to ensure long-term sustainability, stronger operational support, and expanded opportunities to serve those experiencing homelessness and disadvantage.

Both organisations share a common heart for the community, providing free counselling, practical care, food relief, outreach, and support to individuals and families facing hardship, with a shared focus on alleviating homelessness in the Mandurah region.

Together, we believe this new partnership will help build greater capacity, stronger collaboration with local agencies, and continued compassionate care for the people of Mandurah. We look forward to working alongside volunteers, supporters, agencies, and the wider community as we move forward together with hope and purpose.

The Anglican Community Centre will close at the end of July, and New Beginnings is currently searching for new premises that will house our combined operations. We also announce that Doreen will be moving on as she relocates to Brisbane in the near future, to be closer to her daughter and grandson. We wish her the absolute best in her next chapter and are proud to be continuing her amazing work for our community.

We are very pleased to report this continuation and strengthening of the services that Lotus has provided to the community for the last three years, and wish to extend our gratitude to the organisations and community members who have worked alongside us and supported our work.

We will keep you updated with regards to our new venue and contact details as our combined team moves forward.

We’re so grateful to have such a wonderful team of volunteers at Lotus. 💛
A big thank you to Adelle, who so capably manages our listing with Givit — a platform that connects people and organisations to give and receive donations.

Thanks to Givit and an incredibly generous anonymous donor, we’re pleased to have received much-needed supplies to distribute to people sleeping rough in our community. It’s always a great moment unpacking the goodies when they arrive, and knowing they’ll make a real difference.

Thank you for helping us support our community with care and dignity.

AUSTRALIA DAY celebrations.

With thanks to Ash for the nomination, along with all our volunteers who make up Lotus, our work would not be possible without you!

We did not take out the award but it is a privilege to stand beside so many worthy community groups doing great things for our people and environment.

Congratulations to Backpack Buddies who did receive the award for Active Citizenship – Group or Event 2026, providing food for the weekends for families who would otherwise be going hungry during this time that other services are closed.

Well done Mandurah, you make us proud with the collective contribution to our region 🪷

Red Cross took food donations and distributed hampers at The Forum prior to and after Xmas, wrapping up operations just last week. Many individuals and families benefited from their efforts.
Lotus is grateful to accept left over items which we will distribute to those in need for over the next few weeks.
Thank you Red Cross for all you do in our community.

Call for Volunteers – February Training
Are you interested in making a meaningful difference in our community?
The next Lotus Volunteer Training begins in February and runs over four full days, held one day per week. This training is an essential step for anyone wishing to volunteer with us and is also a powerful opportunity for personal growth.
Throughout the program, you’ll take part in thoughtful, supportive conversations and practical learning, including:
• Bias and judgement
• Cultural awareness
• Listening skills and self-care
• Myths of homelessness
• Practical tools such as form completion for social housing and the By Name List.

Even if these topics feel familiar, new group dynamics often bring fresh insights. We’d love you to join us.

This four-day journey is designed to build both the professional skills needed to volunteer with Lotus and your own self-awareness. Growth happens in groups, and our sessions are shaped by evolving, transformative conversations.

If you’ve ever considered volunteering, we invite you to visit our website to learn more about our work in homelessness and disadvantage. As an Assertive Outreach Worker, no qualifications are required. Qualified counsellors seeking experience or wanting to give back to the community are also welcome.

Training dates:
Wednesdays | 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th February | 9am-4pm each day
(Attendance on all four days is required to be eligible to volunteer, and a Mandurah venue will be determined based on enrolment numbers.)

To register or for more information, please contact us:

We extend our gratitude to the City of Mandurah for the funding to deliver this training.
