The big fish keep turning up for our guests. Nick Gow caught a stonker 107cm fishing with guide Lennie Sibio. Debbie Cartwright and Michele O'Brien also mixed it with some hefty 90s.
Lodge Manager, Wayne Angoves, reckons that not just the barra fishing has been going off - with metre fish and lots in the 80s and 90s - but plenty of mangrove jack and black jewfish too.

What a Wet Season the Top End has been experiencing. Not surprisingly, early Runoff at the Barra Lodge has been very fishy. Here's a report from Head Guide Trevor Robb:

The opening week for 2026 saw numerous return groups to the Barra Lodge. The first lot in was the South Australian Foodland group. After one of the group had landed a 103cm Barra last year, they were very keen to try and beat that this year, unfortunately the Barra had other plans and were a little elusive for the couple of days that they fished, some were caught, but the guys had to work hard for them.
Luckily, the Bluewater fishing was on fire!! We ended up with 5 of the 6 boats on the water out the front and everyone had their arms pulled out of their sockets by our Brassy Trevally, oversize Queenfish and big numbers of Spanish Mackerel, not to mention a few nice Golden Snapper, Blue Bone and Coral Trout for the table thrown in.
The next groups in saw not just unbelievable blue water fishing, but they also got to see the Barra Fishing pick up to how it should be here at the Barra Lodge, with boat captures of 50 plus barra a day per boat start coming in, throw in with that some nice 80 and 90cm models. On one day out, veteran guide Lance Butler put Geoff Frost (fishing with Bob Grieves) onto a healthy 101cm Liverpool River Barra, this same day I ventured to one of our rivers with Tim Terry and Peter Gibson, I had the plan going over to throw big lures around targeting size over numbers, we might have finished with only 21 Barra for the day, but 7 were over 90cm with 1 coming in at 102cms for Tim was a great result.
We had an interesting night during that second lot of clients at the lodge, 4 of the 6 sitting at the dinner table found themselves either on the Metre Board already or had just earnt the right to be on it. Something that you don't see every day at the Lodge.
With the floodplains full of water and the rivers running tanin, it can only mean good things to come in the coming weeks, watch this space.

🎣 Another Successful Arnhem Land Adventure!

We recently received this wonderful feedback from returning guests, the Whyte family, following their latest trip to the Arnhem Land Barra Lodge — and it’s too good not to share:

“Hello Roger,
I thought I would give you some feedback on the Whytes’ recent BL trip.

We had a great time overall and managed to land around 180 fish in total.
Lost some big barra to the timber unfortunately.

Trev was unable to guide us, but was expertly replaced by Andy who did a great job looking after us, especially young Sam.

The chef (UK trained) was very good, so we were well fed!

Under the management of Trev & Lauren, everything — housekeeping, etc. — ran very smoothly.

Of the many trips to BL we have done, we think this was one of our most successful.”

Another great result — and a big thanks to our team on the ground for continuing to make each trip unforgettable!

This year's Runoff season continues to be a cracker. Check out this email from Chris & Anne who only left the Lodge this morning.

Hi Roger
Heading home today after a memorable trip.
Highlights being a personal first 108cm Barra.
My wife then followed with her first ever Barra on Sunday then a 102cm on
Monday.
Not sure how often you get two big fish on the same boat, let alone husband
and wife. Needless to say we were over the moon and the envy of the camp.
Special shout out to our guide Lance who was a wonder to be with and
taught us so much.
So great a trip. Probably doesn't get any better.
Cheers
Chris and Anne.

Following a fantastic Build-Up season at the Arnhem Land Barramundi Lodge, where we saw impressive catches in both numbers and size, along with plenty of positive reviews, we are eagerly anticipating what the 2025 Run-off season will have in store.

That's another one aboard!
Will Knowles caught this 102cm Barra on his first day at the lodge with one of our experienced guides Trevor Robb.
That's 3 in 3 weeks so far for the Build-up, and literally 100s and 100s of barra caught by our guests!
