On Tuesday the 25th April Maningrida held its 23rd Anzac Day Service. These Services were started by Johnny Walker a resident from a long time ago, he started these services down at the barge landing with a flag and a couple of mates, who remembered the past as the sun came up. 23 years on the Maningrida Community Members are still holding Anzac Day Services, it is great to see the Service has grown and is well supported by the Community.

This year saw 80 members of the public come down to West Arnhem Regional Council to take part in the ANZAC Day Service commencing at 5.45 am. It was wonderful to have so many different agencies partaking in parts of the service. It was great to hear local history of Maningrida past residents and their involvement in serving & protecting our country. It was lovely to listen Ezekiel and Nevaeh read ANZAC Poems. After the Service we all enjoyed a hot cooked breakfast.

Thank you to the following agencies for their help, support and donations – Maningrida Progress Association, Maningrida Police, Maningrida NTES MERG Unit, Maningrida College, Norforce, West Arnhem Regional Council and all the members of the public that showed up.

This year in late February James Reeson and James Woods received their 10 Year Northern Territory Emergency Service Volunteer Certificate. This certificate publicly recognises the selfless dedication, diligent service and commitment to Northern Territory Emergency Services and the volunteer work they have done over this period. The Deputy Director of NTES came out to present these certificates to James Reeson and James Woods. He stated that he could only count a handful of volunteer members that have received this prestigious certificate in a remote setting. James Reeson and James Woods have both dedicated their time, knowledge and skills to provide quality training to other members of the Maningrida Unit. They have been vital members of the Maningrida Unit when responding to difficult and challenging emergency situations. Both have responded with professionalism and respect for community members involved in many callouts – Fire, Land Search, Road Accident Rescue, Marine Incidents, Cyclones and Storm Damage. James Reeson and James Woods have also dedicated many nights and weekends over the years to increase their knowledge and skills in training and fundraising events within Maningrida Community. James Woods has represented Maningrida Unit at the Unit Officer Conferences each year. Both have moved through the general duties ranks at our Unit and are now Deputy Unit Officers. We are very proud to have James Reeson and James Woods on our Team as Volunteers at Maningrida Emergency Response Group and as a long term member of the Northern Territory Emergency Service.
