Check out these clearer pics of one of our local bandicoots! They’re often mistaken for rats, but they’re actually native marsupials — and honestly, way cooler. The bandicoot you’re probably most familiar with is the bilby (a long-eared type of bandicoot). This one’s also around 3–4 times the size of a rat!

Over the past week I’ve noticed a big increase in digging activity around the site. For a long time I’ve suspected bandicoots were visiting — the little conical holes were there — but proof has been elusive.

I did once capture a very blurry photo of something that might have been a bandicoot… although it could just as easily have been Bigfoot.

With the recent spike in activity, I decided it was time to set up the trail cam — and we finally captured this little visitor!

I’m no expert, but I’m fairly confident this is a bandicoot. Please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong!

I’ve also included a photo of a rat from the same location for comparison — the difference in shape and snout is pretty noticeable.

If it is a bandicoot, this is fantastic news for the site. It’s a great sign of healthy habitat… and hopefully a sign that we don’t currently have a fox around. 🤞

We have some new neighbours. Turn the sound up on the video to hear the baby kookaburra practice its laugh. Our other new neighbour doesn't do much though... Just likes to stare 😳

A snapshot of Glider Way today 🌿

From the tall eucalypt canopy to the palms and understory below, and the young trees regenerating in the clearings—this is what long-term bushcare looks like. Healthy structure, native regeneration, and space for wildlife to return.

Slow progress. Real change. Worth it.

POSSUM UPDATE: This little guy has now been bundled up and shipped off to Supervets Manly West & Hendra!

Spent some time feeding this injured guy last night. Unfortunately this ring tail Possum has lost half its tail. It's very uncertain walking along the fence. I'm hoping to get some help. Will keep you posted.

At least we both got to spend some time enjoying the beautiful night sky!
