We were fortunate to receive a Grassroots Grant from the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board, which has enabled us to purchase a spray trailer to support w**d control works across our Murraylands and Riverland nature reserves. The trailer has already proven highly effective at Lenger Reserve, where it has been used to control onion w**d, horehound, wild sage, gazanias, and other invasive species.

In addition to w**d management, the unit will be an invaluable asset for watering revegetation plantings at multiple reserves throughout the long, dry summer months. Its compact, user-friendly design makes it well suited for use by both volunteers and staff, with the ability to access narrow tracks and trails.

Through this grant, we have also been able to purchase herbicides and engage contractors to undertake control works targeting w**ds of national significance. We sincerely thank the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board for their ongoing support πŸ˜„πŸ™Œ

A few of us braved the weather and temperatures between 5Β°c - 10Β°c at Lenger Reserve today and were quite productive between showers and hail πŸ˜…πŸ₯Ά

Serge, Melville and Butch worked on restoring the old pug and pine cottage whilst Len and I dug out some three-corner jacks, horehound, ice plant, onion w**d, thistles and more πŸ’ͺ

We also went for a bushwalk and found some native orchids, early nancies, native carrots and spotted a pair of wedge-tailed eagles soaring high above. Everything was looking refreshed after over 20mm of rain in the past month πŸ₯°πŸŒ±

Our working bees are on the last Friday of the month from 10am. All ages and abilities welcome 😊

Please join us this Friday 30th May for our monthly working bee 😊🌱

Meet at the cottage at 10am for a great day, we will be planting some seedlings grown by our dedicated volunteer Melville from seed collected at the reserve. We will be tackling some pesky bridal creeper too.

We welcome all ages and abilities and stay as little or as long as you like! 😁

A great chance to connect with nature and give back to the community and environment. πŸ™ŒπŸŒ³

Today is International Day for Biological Diversity πŸŒ±πŸŒ³πŸ¦‚πŸ¦‹πŸ¦ŽπŸ¦˜πŸ¦‡πŸͺ±

Biodiversity is what keeps our world thrivingβ€”yet many species are facing increasing habitat loss and decline.

The National Trust of South Australia is custodian to 24 spectacular nature reserves right across the state, in a variety of ecological communities, supporting a huge array of biodiversity!

Thanks to all our volunteers who celebrate biodiversity today, and everyday! Thanks so much for protecting and conserving vital habitat for thousands of native species keeping ecosystems healthy and resilient πŸ’š

You can take action by supporting conservation efforts in South Australia. No matter your abilities, there are many opportunities for all 😊🌱

This week we celebrate National Volunteer Week! πŸ™ŒπŸŽ‰

We thank all who volunteer for the National Trust of South Australia enormously! Also to those volunteers around the world.

This year’s theme is β€˜Connecting Communities,' celebrating the power in volunteering to bring people together. Volunteering creates lasting relationships that enriches lives and strengthens communities.

Without the help from our volunteers, what we achieve would just not be possible.

Volunteers make the world a better place! We are so grateful for your dedication, passion and care πŸ₯°πŸŒ±

Would you like to volunteer for the National Trust? We have so many different volunteering opportunities. Please contact us on (08) 8202 9200 or at [email protected]

Today, on International Volunteers Day, we are so thankful to all the amazing volunteers who dedicate their time to protect our precious native bushland πŸ™πŸŒ±πŸ’•

Without volunteers, the National Trust nature reserves would be w**dy, inaccessible and void of native plants and wildlife. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers over decades, these reserves are oases for many threatened plants, animals and ecological communities. And most are accessible, via walking trails (also maintained by volunteers) for people to enjoy!

Our world, society and communities would truly be lost without them!

If you've thought about volunteering, no matter your skills/abilities there is always something to do and we'd welcome any support. It's a great way to give back, spend time in nature and make a positive difference πŸ˜ŠπŸ™Œ
