Do you have great ideas about what the future of Victoria’s alpine sector could look like? ARV is calling on all interested stakeholders to participate in engagement for the next Alpine Resorts Strategic Plan (ARSP) for 2026-2030.

The ARSP is a whole sector strategy that outlines the vision and direction of the sector, and identifies strategies that required over the next five years for the sector's success. ARV is collaborating extensively on the development of this plan with sector representatives and wants to ensure a broad spectrum of stakeholders are able to have their say.

So, if you have ideas, big, small or anywhere in between – share them with us via our online engagement on Engage Victoria https://engage.vic.gov.au/project/alpine-resorts-strategic-plan-2025/survey/5827

ARV is seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced commercial operators to play an important role in reinvigorating and reimagining either one or two of Victoria’s well loved alpine destinations - Lake Mountain and Mt Baw Baw.

We are inviting proposals from operators interested in developing innovative, sustainable, commercial solutions for the resorts’ operations. This could be for just one, or both resorts on a year-round basis, through an Expression of Interest process on the Buying for Victoria platform.

The EOI is now open and online briefing and site visits are being scheduled, so don't delay!

ARV advises that four of Victoria’s alpine resorts will have their last day of winter operations this Sunday 1 September – Mt Buller, Lake Mountain, Mt Baw Baw and Mt Stirling.

Falls Creek and Mt Hotham remain operational with the recent snowfalls seeming promising for another fortnight of operations.

While it has certainly been a challenging season with low natural snowfalls, each alpine resort has done a tremendous job facilitating over 1 million visitor days across the six resorts with the resources they have available.

ARV would like to commend the staff and stakeholders of all of the resorts and thank the visitors who make the resorts a special place.
While some of the resorts will be setting up for summer operations, we hope to see as many, if not more visitors back at the resorts in winter 2025

Happy NAIDOC Week!
With NAIDOC Week celebrations in the national spotlight this week, Alpine Resorts Victoria is pleased work has commenced on a significant project that will guide how we can partner with Traditional Owners to progress self-determination on alpine Country.

Our six alpine resorts are a unique and beautiful part of Victoria and are home to six Traditional Owner groups – Gunaikurnai, Taungurung, Wurundjeri, Dhudhuroa, Waywurru and Jaithmathang people.

ARV has kicked off a consultation process with Traditional Owners from alpine areas as well as Indigenous representatives from the broader community to seek responses and feedback through a series of yarning sessions and interviews, and online surveys.
The results will inform how self-determination in Victoria’s alpine resorts can be progressed.

That’s cause for celebration! Happy NAIDOC week.

Join the celebrations of 100 years of skiing on Mt Buller

Mt Buller is preparing to celebrate this weekend (6-7 July) when the community will come together to mark 100 years since skiing started on the mountain.

Mt Buller’s community reflects on the deep connection and long history we share and optimism for the future as we embark on the next 100 years together.

Mt Buller has 8 lifts in operation for the weekend and a firm, groomed cover of approx. 40cms of snow including Summit Run and Skyline open for skiing and boarding from 8.30am.

Twilight Sessions on Saturday will extend to 9pm. Twilight passes are available from 5-9pm for the under-light experience and guests are encouraged to embrace vintage ski gear as well as some high-vis or glow in the dark options once it gets dark!

At approx. 6pm the lights on Bourke Street will turn off for a special torchlit descent of 100 skiers carrying bright torches to guide their line down the slope. A dazzling display of fireworks will mark the conclusion of the torch descent.

Shuttle buses to the car parks and within the village are also extended for the evening to encourage visitors to stay and enjoy the experience.

Buller Ski Lifts can confirm normal winter operations, and these special extended evening operations, for Saturday 6 July including lifting, Ski & Snowboard School lessons, hospitality venues, toboggan slopes and snowplay zones.

OVER 12,000 FULL-TIME EQUIVALENT JOBS

Victoria's alpine sector supports 12,130 full-time equivalent jobs each year.

Around 8,300 of these are directly related to visitor expenditures, while around 3,830 FTE jobs are associated with indirect effects.

Across all FTE jobs, around 5,960 are based in the alpine resorts, 2,105 are based in the local areas near the resorts, and 4,065 are spread across the rest of Victoria.

This is significant for regional Victoria where there often is lower levels of employment and reduced job opportunities compared to metropolitan centers.
