💧 Water update for southern Mareeba 💧
7pm 1 June 2026
The repair to the water main is complete. Crews are still onsite monitoring the Wylandra water reservoir which is slowly starting to fill and is at 5% capacity.

Please only use water for essential purposes tonight, otherwise the reservoir may drain quicker than it can fill up. By reducing your water usage, it will help residents get water further down the line quicker.

Once the water comes back on, you should run cold water for a few minutes if your water appears milky or dirty as the line can have air bubbles.

We thank residents for their patience and understanding.

Planned burn in Kuranda National Park
2 - 3 June 2026.

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) conducts planned burns on parks and forests to support a healthy environment and reduce the risk and intensity of bushfires.

QPWS will conduct planned burns in Kuranda National Park on 2nd June 2026.

Avoid driving through smoke where possible and be aware of firefighters working in the area.
These burns aim to mitigate the risk and intensity of bushfires and their potential impacts on communities, infrastructure, parks, and forests.
They are also vital in promoting ecological health, biodiversity, and the conservation of species and habitats.

Planned burns are highly weather-dependent, generally requiring milder conditions and minimal wind.
These same weather conditions can also allow smoke to accumulate and linger until weather conditions change and winds assist in dispersing the smoke.

If smoke affects you:
o stay indoors and close windows and doors; and
o keep respiratory medication close by.

Public safety is the highest consideration in all QPWS fire management activities. To find out more visit the Fire management webpage.

Live air quality data, and information on smoke and dust health actions, can be found on the Queensland Government’s website: https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/management/monitoring/air.

You can stay updated with local QPWS fire activities by visiting Park Alerts or by following Qld Park Alerts on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Works are expected to take just over one week, weather and site conditions permitting.

We appreciate your patience while these essential works are carried out to improve our water infrastructure.

💧 Water update for southern Mareeba 💧
11am 1 June 2026
Council crews are onsite this morning to repair the water main that broke on Sunday, 31 May, impacting residents in southern Mareeba and Wylandra Estate. Council carried out a temporary repair last night, and a proper repair will be implemented today.

Council wishes to advise that interrupted water supply or low water pressure will occur today whilst repairs are carried out.

This will impact:
• Wylandra Estate
• McIvor Road
• Mines Road
• Mareeba Airport
• Seary Road
• Kenneally Road
• Surrounding areas

At this stage, we cannot advise when water will be restored but we expect it will take a few hours to repair the damage.

We would also like to ask impacted residents to please conserve water today for essential purposes only e.g. drinking, cooking, hygiene, household cleaning, and not watering the lawn or washing your car.

We thank residents for their patience and understanding.

💧 Water update for southern Mareeba 💧
8.40pm 31 May 2026
Council is aware that some residents are still without water, particularly in the Wylandra area. Due to the temporary repair of the water main, we have only been able to operate one pump to keep water pressure low enough to avoid compromising the temporary fix.

As a result, it has taken longer than expected for water to reach streets located further away from the break.

Crews are still onsite and water should be restored to impacted residents shortly.

We thank residents for their patience and understanding.
