🪃Last term in April, four Year 12 students — Sasha Grogan, Timmirri Grogan, Deshontae Richards and Haylee Highbury — competed in the 2026 Senior Secondary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Aspirations Program (ATSIAP) Challenge.
🪃ATSIAP is an academic challenge-based program for eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 10–12 attending Queensland state schools. The program combines cultural strengths with rigorous learning, while developing students’ critical and creative thinking, teamwork, communication and leadership skills.
🪃Throughout the challenge, the team collaborated on a series of creative and analytical tasks, including a visual arts piece titled Mareeba – Meeting of the Waters, Current of Change and a media project exploring the role social media plays in shaping the opinions of Indigenous youth in the region.
🎉Congratulations to the Mareeba State High School team on winning first place in the FNQ Region and earning the opportunity to represent Far North Queensland at the 2026 ATSIAP Senior Secondary State Final in Brisbane!
