🦅 Our incredible Tenacious Tuesday volunteers recently spent the morning re-perching an aviary for our resident disabled falcons, creating a more accessible and enriching space for them to explore, perch and move around safely. It's just one example of the valuable work our volunteers do behind the scenes to support the welfare of the birds in our care.

Interested in joining the team?

We currently have several volunteer opportunities available:
🔨 Tenacious Tuesday (fortnightly) – Help with aviary improvements, perch replacement, w**d management and general maintenance.
🚐 Rat Run (every 4 weeks) – Drive to Perth to collect food supplies for our birds and occasionally assist with wildlife transport, vehicle provided.
🦅 Raptor Runner – Be on call to help transport injured birds to veterinary clinics and wildlife carers when needed.
🍃 Park Upkeep (Wednesday mornings) – Help prepare the sanctuary for visitors by maintaining paths and public areas.

Just one day left to provide feedback on the proposed regulation changes to protect Australian wildlife from rodent pest control products.

Just 3 days left to have your say for wildlife! The Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is seeking feedback on a proposal to declare Second Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides (SGARs) as Restricted Chemical Products (RCPs).

This is the next step following the exciting (long overdue) recommendation by the APVMA in March.

Put in a submission by 5pm (AEST) (3pm WA time) 11 June to say that it's essential for Restricted Chemical Product registration for SGARs to proceed to protect wildlife from these deadly rodent pest control products.

Please shout out YES for our beautiful owls and other wildlife. It's easy and only takes a few moments.

Welcome back to another segment of Rob’s Random Facts at Capes Raptor Centre!

Today we are hanging out with our resident Tawny Frogmouths, Kath & Kim.

Kath & Kim aren’t just a couple of Aussie icons. They have a special keratinous powder that coats their feathers and acts as nature’s rain coat ☔️ This powder also allows them to fly silently, which is crucial for nocturnal birds.

Welcome to our very first segment of Rob’s Random Facts here at Capes Raptor Centre!

Today we are hanging out with one of our resident Wedge-tailed Eagles 🦅 Mr Grace, to learn more about wedgies’ diets.

Wedge-tailed Eagles have one of the broadest diets of any eagle in the world. They’re amazing natural pest control, which is especially important for wildlife balance on an island like Australia!

We had an amazing Sunday learning from ecologist Dr Simon Cherriman during our Nest-box Building Workshop!

Over six hours we designed, built and painted nest-boxes created from recycled materials 🛠️ before Simon climbed up into our incredible trees 🌳 and installed the boxes around Capes Raptor Centre, in an effort to create new nesting habitat for wild birds around the Margaret River region.

So next time you go for a wander along our sanctuary walk, look up ⬆️ and keep your eyes peeled 👀 there may be some feathered friends moving in soon 🤞

A great diversity of Australian wildlife relies on native tree hollows for nesting and shelter. But these hollows can take hundreds of years to form, and sadly, many have been lost due to land clearing.

The result? A growing shortage of homes for species like owls. The good news is, nest boxes offer a practical, short-term solution.

🌿 Join Dr Simon Cherriman for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to build your own nest box and support local wildlife in a meaningful way.

Nest-boxes will be made from recycled materials and installed at Capes Raptor Centre to enhance wildlife habitat. We invite you to join us for this special workshop to discover the skills and materials needed to build your own nest boxes at home.
