If you live in or near a fire-prone area, today is a good day to pause and think about your fire plan.
On days like these, the safest choice is to leave early—before the fire even starts.
If you live in a fire prone area make plans to be somewhere else: visit friends or family in a safer area.
If you do leave, remember to take:
Important documents (ID, insurance, passports)
Medications and prescriptions
Phone chargers and essential items
Pets and their supplies 🐾
Leaving early helps reduce risk for you and for emergency services. Stay informed, stay prepared, and look out for one another. ❤️

A Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating has been currently forecast for Friday 9 January 2026 in the Northern Country, North Central and Wimmera districts. A Catastrophic rating signals the worst possible conditions for grass and bushfires. For your survival, leave bushfire risk areas - if a fire starts and takes hold, lives are likely to be lost.

An Extreme Fire Danger Rating has also been forecast for the remainder of the state. Take action now to protect your life and property.

Stay up to date with warnings and incidents via VicEmergency: www.emergency.vic.gov.au

Fire Danger Ratings are forecast using Bureau of Meteorology data up to four days in advance, but can change on the day. Therefore, it is important to check the Fire Danger Rating for your area every day and know which rating is your trigger to act.

⚠️ Wild Weather Update – Stay Safe, Marong & Beyond ⚠️

It’s another busy day for our VICSES volunteers as strong winds and heavy rain continue across the region. 🌧️💨

If you’ve called for help, please be patient — our small team of local volunteers is working through requests for assistance as quickly and safely as possible. Every job is triaged based on risk and urgency, so we thank you for your understanding while we get to you.

Here are a few important reminders:

✅ If driving conditions are dangerous, pull over safely away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if you can.
✅ Stay safe around your home — secure outdoor items like umbrellas, outdoor furniture and trampolines, and move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
✅ Stay indoors and away from windows during strong winds.
✅ If outdoors, move to safety immediately and stay clear of trees, drains, creeks, and powerlines. Always assume fallen lines are live.
✅ Be aware that saturated ground and recent fire or storm damage can make trees unstable and more likely to fall.
✅ Avoid floodwater — it’s often deeper, faster, and more dangerous than it looks.

If you must travel today:
🚗 Leave early and drive cautiously.
🚗 Slow down and give yourself extra space on the road.
🚗 Use your headlights for visibility.
🚗 Watch for debris and fallen branches.
🚗 Pull over safely if winds become too strong.

Stay safe, check on your neighbours, and give our crews a friendly wave if you see them out there in the weather. 💛🦺
