Marrickville High School provides exceptional learning opportunities for all of its students in a supportive and caring environment. Founded in 1929 on the site of the original Marrickville Council Chambers, Marr

ickville Girls Intermediate High School was later named Marrickville Junior Girls High School in 1954. Growing enrolments, as a result of a boom in the migrant population, led to a proposal to build a new secondary school in 1969 on the present site of Sydenham Road. In 1977 Marrickville Girls High School was officially opened by Governor of New South Wales, Sir Arthur Roden Cutler. In 1979 the school became coeducational and was renamed Marrickville High School. Sporting facilities include a dance studio, two full sized playing fields, an undercover netball court, two basketball courts and two cricket practice nets. A multipurpose centre incorporating a gymnasium, and indoor basketball court also acts as the schools assembly hall - offering ‘inner city’ students plenty of space to move. Marrickville High School houses two fully equipped teaching kitchens and state of the art woodwork facilities for its design and technology courses. Students are offered creative fulfillment through music, drama, art, creative writing and poetry programmes. Our school is staffed by dedicated, experienced professionals who genuinely care for the well-being and progress of each student. Their aim is to develop successful learners who are able to reach their potential, and equip students with the skills and attitude, to be ready for the demands of adult life.

A Tough battle against a very strong Kirrawee High team saw our boys go down narrowly 48–39.
Despite the result, we couldn’t be prouder of the effort and determination shown by the team. Every player continued to compete, support each other, and try their best until the final siren.

The boys represented our school with great pride, respect, and sportsmanship. A special thank you to Ginger and Ziggy in year 9 for assisting with coaching and refereeing duties.

Marrickville High School is proud to present our 2026 CAPA Showcase — an evening celebrating the creativity and talent of our students across Drama, Music and Visual Arts.
Featuring students from Years 7–12, as well as performances from some of our local primary school students.

Marrickville High is celebrating Colours of Courage! Every colour is different — together they’re powerful. This Friday we wear purple to tell Rainbow and LGBTQIA+SB young people they are seen, supported and celebrated, in every form their courage takes.

What’s on – Recess & Lunch: 🎂 Cake Stall 🎖️ Badge Making 🎵 Music 📸 Photo Booth 💫 Bracelet Making 💄 Hair & Face Makeup

How to take part:

✅ Wear FULL school uniform + purple or colourful accessories
✅ Baking something? Drop it at the office Friday morning to donate to the cake stall ✅ Bring cash to grab treats and goodies on the day!

Congratulations to Year 7 student Xander, who performed in the Festival of Choral Music at the Sydney Opera House in August. The festival brings together talented students from across NSW for the incredible opportunity to perform on one of Australia’s most iconic stages.
Xander will return to the Opera House later this year to perform in the Instrumental Festival.
A dedicated young musician, Xander is also in his third year performing with The Arts Unit Strings Sinfonia, alongside his involvement in other ensembles. This year is particularly special as it is his first year representing MHS.
We are very proud to see Xander representing our school and pursuing his passion for music. 🎻👏

Marrickville High wins Wheen Bee Foundation Grant

From museums to wildlife sanctuaries, 40 community groups are preparing to plant about 4,200 pollinator-friendly trees and shrubs thanks to this year’s Trees for Bees Community Tree Grants
We received a record 198 applications from across the country, a great response that made the selection process extremely difficult. We look forward to seeing the 40 successful projects deliver meaningful impact for pollinators and local communities.
This year’s recipients include schools, Landcare groups, community gardens, a memorial hall, aged care facilities, Aboriginal not-for-profits and a Lions club - with more than 15,500 people taking part across the 40 projects to grow habitat and support pollinators nationwide.

🩺 Daniel is now pursuing his dream of Nursing at UTS, following in his family’s footsteps in the health profession. Keep shining, Daniel – we are so proud of you!

⚽ Big congratulations to Jake, who secured a spot with the Gulf United Football Team after two months of trialling in Dubai. As a standout player in one of MHS’s strongest football teams (Open Boys Semi Finalists), Jake was blown away by the top-notch facilities and pristine grass ovals. He is headed back to Dubai this December to officially kick off his football career. Go get ’em, Jake! 🙌
