Fire Agencies and Land Managers will continue to take advantage of suitable conditions to execute critical hazard reduction burns across the Greater Sydney Area this weekend.

If there is a hazard reduction burn planned for your area, consider taking the following steps:

- Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes
- Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns
- Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage
- Remove washing from clotheslines
- Ensure pets have a protected area
- Vehicles must slow down, keep windows up, turn headlights on

🚫 Sightseers must keep away from burns for their own safety

If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice

For health information relating to smoke from bush fires and hazard reduction burning, visit the NSW Health website or Asthma Australia.

Not sure if a Hazard Reduction Burn is taking place near you?

This afternoon I joined staff from Cumberland/MacArthur, Blue Mountains and The Hills in wishing Andrew Kaye farewell and the best in retirement after 17 years with the RFS. Andrew stated in 2007 working on Resource to Risk before moving to the Blue Mountains working in Community Risk. In the past few months Andrew has been working again on a Resource to Risk project for the Greater Sydney Area

Thanks to all the members from Greater Sydney that made themselves available for this short notice deployment. The efforts of those that made the trip last night were gratefully received by the Northern Tablelands community.

As fire conditions deteriorated yesterday afternoon across Tenterfield firegrounds, a request for additional crews was put in place with 30 members flying out from Sydney that night. These crews will support local firefighters to establish containment lines, reduce threat to properties and plan for coming days. We extend our thanks to those who have travelled away from home to support the firefighting effort.

Conditions will be easing into the weekend but there are still moderate and high fire danger ratings in place across much of the state.

Residents in fire affected areas should monitor conditions and stay up-to-date with the latest information through the Hazards Near Me app and website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fnm
