Thank you everyone. It's been such a privilege to carry this torch. A baton which of course has been realised in a Labor Government. Now it's all over I will be shutting down this site. Please seek me out back at my old facebook site.

Labor distinguishes itself in this election with a comprehensive plan to tackle the appalling level of unemployment in the state. It is about educations, job training and job creation.

The plan starts with funding entry-level education. The Local Learning and Education Network will be guaranteed funding for the next four years. Important news for Ripon with the LLEN in Ararat and Charlton often being the one agency young people in the local area can turn to for help. Then in Beaufort the third stage of the Secondary College will be completed. Next is the $320m commitment to rescue TAFE instead of leaving those campuses in Ararat, Stawell and Maryborough moth-balled.

After training comes job creation with a $200 million regional jobs fund to invest in job creation projects. This is joined by the $240 million infrastructure fund with its requirement that 10% of employees in government funded infrastructure projects be apprentices. Out of these funds will be drawn $20 million specifically set aside to invest in new renewable energy projects to jump start the wind farm industry that has stalled under Napthine. The $1 billion fund to fix country roads will be in addition to this.

Yes there has been a disconnected litany of eleventh hour funding announcements by the Coalition. After four years of doing nothing and with the prospect of election defeat looming, these promises have a desperate feel about them. After the last federal election people do not have the same level of trust in Coalition. Certainly what is lacking is a measured approach that has considered the long term needs of the community in an economically sustainable way. With a Coalition government the devil will no doubt be in the detail and the measures taken to fund it all implemented only after an election. Should they be elected I fear the cuts the Coalition’s momentary enthusiasm for spending will lead to.

Labor looks to the bigger picture and I am confident people can see that. And if you’re not convinced see what you think of the policies link on Daniel Andrew’s website.

Back to School An Andrews Labor Government will give our kids the basics they need for their school, the skills they need for their career and the support they need for their life.

Listening posts at St Arnaud, Donald and Charlton. Grabbed a sandwich in Donald and was lucky enough to run into Danny Forrest and was finally able to make good the purchase for the girls I'd been wanting to make all year.

Listening posts at Clunes, Creswick, Smeaton and Newlyn. Newlyn was something of a highlight as I got to meet Newlyn Hotel owner Seka Sumonja who was an unabashed realist with an acerbic and disarmingly accurate social insight.

Jacinta Allan yesterday announced Labor’s $1 million plan to boost cellar door visits with a Victorian Wine Tourism Strategy and grow overseas markets with a fund to support wine exports. Was a pleasure to follow this up with a visit to the fabulous Dogrock Winery together with shadow Parl Sec for Rural and Regional Development Jaala Pulford. Good to talk wine and investment with Pyrenees Councillor Robert Vance, Dogrock wine maker Allan Hart, Wine Victoria chairman Damien Sheehan (and Lyn Hughes behind the camera).
