Candlelight Vigil for Kumanjayi Little Baby πŸ•―οΈπŸ’—

The Meekatharra community came together on Thursday evening to honour and remember Kumanjayi Little Baby, a five-year-old girl from Alice Springs, during a Candlelight Vigil held at the Swimming Pool lawn. Community members were encouraged to wear pink, her favourite colour, as a tribute to her memory.

Families, children, Elders and community members gathered in a quiet show of support, reflection and solidarity. The vigil included a moment of silence, candle lighting and time for personal reflection, before concluding with evening tea shared amongst the community.

The vigil was led by community member Timika King and reflected the strength, care and unity of the Meekatharra community.

🌟 What we heard from our community

Last October, we asked our community and visitors for input to help shape our Strategic Community Plan, with over 150 people sharing their views.

πŸ’‘ You also shared ideas on how Meekatharra can continue to grow and improve for both residents and visitors. This includes enhancing signage and town presentation, attracting a cafΓ© or coffee shop, improving the town centre, promoting more positive stories, and addressing concerns such as roaming dogs, antisocial behaviour, and youth crime.

These insights are helping guide Meekatharra’s future. Thank you to everyone who contributed and shared their voice.
