Recent changes to eligibility mean families of veterans can receive care regardless of operational deployment. It is an important step forward, but it also means demand for support is growing rapidly.

More families are reaching out for help earlier.
And we must be ready.

Eliza* and her children were experiencing family violence which escalated after her ex-husband acquired access to a key for their house.

Having built a trusting relationship with the case managers at Melbourne Legacy, Eliza and her children were able to regain a sense of safety after a successful referral was made to the Salvation Army Safer In The Home (SITH) program.

This enabled the family to have their locks changed, meter box lock installed and a security door set up, helping them feel more secure in their own home.

Case managers have an extensive knowledge of programs available to assist those experiencing family violence and are able to ensure that our beneficiaries get the help they need to feel as safe as possible especially in extreme family violence situations.

A highlight of the 94th ANZAC Commemoration for Students was hearing from Ajay Sonti, winner of the national Legacy Junior Public Speaking Competition.

Ajay's speech, 'Listen to Remember', was an engaging tribute to the importance of listening in the act of remembrance. Through humorous quips and heartfelt anecdotes, Ajay highlighted the importance of finding out the human side of history through storytelling.

Speaking to Ajay before the ceremony, he emphasised the importance of hearing directly from those who experienced active service, noting that these stories can offer young people without a personal connection to service a deeper and more meaningful perspective on remembrance.

In the week leading up to ANZAC Day, we welcomed members of Melbourne Legacy’s Torch Society to a special luncheon at the Park Hyatt.

Melbourne Legacy’s Torch Society is a deeply committed group of supporters who have shown remarkable care and foresight by choosing to create their own lasting legacy by leaving a Gift in their Will.

Guests heard from Major General Jason Blain DSC AM CSC and Melbourne Legacy beneficiary Cheryl Mackenzie, whose personal story highlighted the lasting impact of Legacy support.

The generosity of this group plays a vital role in enabling Melbourne Legacy to continue its mission of supporting families of veterans.

Late last month, we enjoyed a wonderful day out with a group of our disabled beneficiaries, gathering for a delightful high tea at the Windsor.

Kicking off with a champagne toast and a specially curated menu, the afternoon was filled with connection, laughter, and cherished memories.

Days like this bring together a close-knit group, many of whom have shared friendships for decades. For some, these outings are rare chances to reconnect, share stories, and enjoy each other’s company. ❤️💙

Earlier this week, more than 3,450 students and teachers gathered at the Shrine of Remembrance for Melbourne Legacy’s 94th ANZAC Commemoration for Students.

The ceremony provided students from around Victoria the opportunity to reflect on the service and sacrifice of the ANZACs through storytelling, wreath laying and remembrance.

Thank you to the Victorian Government for their generous funding and to all schools, speakers, supporters and partners who contributed to this important day.
