Research conducted by the University of Flinders suggests that by engaging with meaningful activities, our ever-ageing population will maintain a better quality of life, and quality of emotion. With this program, we are tapping into our dedicated team of ‘conversation experts’ who can take skills that they already hold in rapport building for fundraising purposes, and use it to brighten up the day
for people who may be missing their everyday opportunities to connect. We aim to regularly provide a friendly voice and companionship to users over the phone. Our callers might use this time simply to chat, or to help users complete everyday tasks – like setting up a skype call with family, or accessing their Netflix. These are also opportunities to provide reminders that help with everyday life, like remembering to take medication or put the rubbish out – or a quick reminder to call the grandkids on their birthday in a week’s time. It is worth noting whilst our service is not a helpline - our team is fully equipped with a range of numbers for relevant services if someone isn't well. GenConnect users won't be the only ones benefiting from these conversations. It gives our team a chance to receive advice and wisdom from people who've lived some wonderfully interesting lives. In addition to this we are providing employment opportunities to young people that provides meaning and mental health benefits.
