A new bridge for Gippsland.

We’ve finished replacing the Rainbow Creek Bridge on Traralgon-Maffra Rd, near Heyfield. The new reinforced concrete bridge will help to improve safety and reliability for everyone travelling through the area.

With upgraded road approaches, safety barriers and a new road surface, it’s a better connection for the community for years to come.

The Eastern Fwy will be closed in both directions between Chandler Hwy and Tram Rd from 10pm, Friday 16 October to 5am, Monday 19 October.

Delays of up to 90 minutes are expected, so avoid the area if you can. Detours will be in place.

There will also be changed traffic conditions in place between Hoddle St and the Chandler Hwy, and Thompson Rd will be closed in both directions between Bulleen Rd and the Thompsons Rd Ringwood-bound entry ramp.

The closure is part of the Eastern Fwy Upgrade, so crews can asphalt new lanes, widen the Bulleen Rd bridge and install freeway flyovers.

Bus Routes 200, 905, 906, 907 and 908 will also be affected.

Today we pause and pay our respects to the men who went to work on the morning of 15 October 1970 and never came home to their families and loved ones.

This year marks the 56th anniversary of the thirty-five construction workers tragically lost their lives and 18 were injured when the West Gate Bridge collapsed during its construction.

They played an important role in the bridge’s construction which today is a vital connection between the city and the west.

Victorian carers can explore Melbourne and regional Victoria with free travel from Sat 10 Oct to Sun 18 Oct.

Remember to carry your Carer myki and Victorian Carer Card with with you while travelling, and tap on and off as usual - you won’t be charged during this time.

The Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival returns this weekend, with thousands of participants taking to Melbourne’s streets on Sat 10 and Sun 11 Oct.

Road closures and changed traffic conditions will be in place, with the biggest impacts on Sunday. Plan ahead, allow extra travel time and consider public transport.

Sat 10 Oct
Closures from 4am around Melbourne Park, the C*D and Kings Domain. Most roads reopen between 10.30am and 11.30am.

Sun 11 Oct
Closures from 3.30am across the C*D, Southbank, East Melbourne, Albert Park, St Kilda, Elwood, Brighton and Bayside. Most roads reopen progressively between midday and 3pm, with Beach Rd and foreshore roads reopening from south to north between 10am and midday.

Running, supporting someone or heading into the city? Public transport is the easiest way to get around, with additional services running both days.

It’s a belter of a design, packed with colourful characters inspired by the Victorians you’ll find on the network every day. Basically, public transport in card form.

You’ll be able to get your hands on the new Youth myki online in 2027.
