“Wait… social work got approved?” 👀

I supported someone through their NDIS access (which was approved without issue) and attended their first planning meeting with them last week (cognitive & neurological impairment after experiencing a stroke)… and honestly, I paused for a second.

Because not only was OT strongly funded (as expected, and appropriate for ABI/stroke)…
👉🏻 social work was also included.

No pushback. No fight.
Just, recognised.

And that felt refreshing.

A reminder that good outcomes are still possible, even in a changing NDIS landscape.

Of course, we always want more hours (don’t we all 😅)
But for a first plan, this was actually a really solid, balanced outcome:

✔️ Strong OT funding leading functional and cognitive rehab
✔️ A dedicated allocation of social work supporting psychosocial impact, adjustment, identity, grief, and systems navigation
✔️ Psychology (with transition to MHCP)
✔️ Physio
✔️ Support work & transport
✔️ Support coordination & PSRC
✔️ Plan management
✔️ Assistive technology (with quotes, no capped limit)

What stood out most?

It wasn’t just a “therapy-heavy” plan.
It was a whole-of-person plan.

Because after a stroke, it’s not just about function.
It’s about who you are now, what’s changed, what’s been lost and what’s still there, and how you rebuild.

And that’s where social work sits — alongside, not instead of, other therapies.

👉🏻 Supporting adjustment
👉🏻 Making sense of the psychosocial complexity
👉🏻 Navigating systems (NDIS, DVA, life…)
👉🏻 Making sense of what comes next

And this time, it was recognised, from the start.

No big advocacy push.
No “prove your worth.”
Just, included.

More of this, please.

Because when plans get this balance right from the start, we’re not spending the next 12 months navigating barriers in the system — we’re actually doing the work.

Still here 🌱 (just doing all the jobs…)

Social worker. Accountant. Admin. Marketing team. All of it.

Hi, it’s Laura from Lets Reseed 🙋🏻‍♀️

I’ve been a little quiet on here lately, not because I’ve disappeared… just because private practice means being everything at once.

Social worker.
Report writer.
NDIS navigator.
Accountant (kind of 😅)
Admin.
Marketing team (clearly still learning).

And sometimes, social media is the thing that drops off.

But the work hasn’t stopped.

Supporting people through change.
Holding space for the hard stuff.
Advocating, writing reports, navigating systems.
Doing the everyday, meaningful work of social work.

So this is me showing back up, to reconnect.

If we haven’t met before, I’m a social worker based in Melbourne and the person behind Lets Reseed.

I support:
NDIS participants
Veterans (DVA)
Individuals navigating life changes
Social workers and students through supervision

My work sits in the space between therapy and real life — emotional wellbeing, practical support, and making sense of complex systems.

Simple. Human. Real.

If you’ve been meaning to reach out, this is your sign 🌱
If you refer to social work, I’m here and open to connecting.
If you’ve worked with me before — thank you, and welcome back 😊

🌱 EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
Associate Social Worker – Lets Reseed

I’m exploring bringing on an Associate Social Worker to join Lets Reseed in a flexible contractor (percentage split) capacity as the practice grows.

This role would focus on psychosocial support, NDIS work, advocacy, and community-based support, alongside a small, values-led social work practice.

✨ Remote & community-based
✨ Flexible caseload (gradual growth)
✨ Supervision, mentoring & support provided

You might be early-career or experienced — most importantly, you’re relational, reflective, and aligned with trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming practice.

If this sounds like you, I’d love to connect 🤍
Send me a message or email with a short intro & your CV.

I don’t usually share posts like this.
But this has felt too important not to name.

I’m a social worker.
I’m Laura. I’m 43.
I’m also a woman navigating perimenopause.

And if I’m honest, it’s been a lot.

There are days where I feel grounded, present, connected, doing the work I care deeply about.

And then there are days where I feel like I’m losing my footing.

Aches. Pains.
Brain fog. Forgetting things.
Mood shifts. The tears.
That sense of feeling, a bit lost at times.

Changes in my body that don’t always make sense.
Palpitations. Sweats.
Sleep that just isn’t what it used to be.

Overwhelm. Anxiety. Stress.
Not feeling as social.
A loss of joy in moments that used to feel easy.

And this quiet tension between knowing what I’m capable of, and moments where I can’t access it in the same way.

That part has been confronting.

Because social work asks a lot of us.

Presence. Clarity. Emotional regulation. Attunement. Advocacy.
All the things perimenopause can quietly (or not so quietly) disrupt.

There’s an irony in holding space for others while trying to steady yourself at the same time.

In talking about self-care, boundaries, regulation, and then finding it genuinely hard to practice them.

In knowing how to advocate, and then finding yourself dismissed… then heard… then dismissed again.

It’s been a back and forth.
And I’m still learning to sit in the in-between.

But here’s what I also know:

Social work hasn’t just been challenged by this, it’s also what’s kept me going.

The values.
The connection.
The purpose.

The reminder that being human isn’t a limitation in this work, it’s part of it.

Even when it’s messy.
Even when it’s uncomfortable.
Even when it looks different.

I’m also learning how hard it is to acknowledge this.
To open up. To talk about it.

But when you can, even a little, it helps.

So here’s to the women navigating this quietly.
To those starting to share.
And to those already speaking about it, thank you. I’ve heard you, and I hope to join you.

We’re in this together.

I’m still here.
Still showing up.
Still doing the work.

And maybe,
that’s part of the work too.

Laura 💜

I haven’t posted in a while, but today felt too important not to.

Running a practice, supporting people through complex things, and showing up in the world as a social worker can get heavy sometimes.

But International Women’s Day feels too important not to acknowledge.

Every day in my work I meet women who are:

strong, exhausted, brave, rebuilding, advocating, surviving, caring for others, and trying again.

Women navigating systems.
Women raising children.
Women living with disability.
Women starting over.
Women who have been unheard for far too long.

It’s a privilege to sit beside them in that work.

Today is a reminder that progress happens in big moments and small ones — often quietly, often slowly, but always through connection and support.

To the women doing the work, holding families together, finding their voice, or simply getting through the day — I see you.

Laura 💜

What does an NDIS social worker actually help with?
More than most people realise

A lot of families say:
“We didn’t realise a social worker could do all of this.”

Here’s what I commonly support with:
✔ Functional Capacity Assessments
✔ NDIS access evidence & reports
✔ Plan reviews & advocacy
✔ Emotional support during big changes
✔ Housing & service coordination
✔ Crisis planning
✔ Helping people make sense of the system

NDIS isn’t just paperwork.
It’s people trying to live their lives.

My job is to bridge the gap between the person and the system, calmly and clearly.
Unsure if social work fits your situation? You’re always welcome to ask.

A day in the life of a social worker (private practice edition).
It’s not just appointments.

People often imagine private practice social work as sitting in a therapy room all day.
Reality?

Today looks like:

- Writing an NDIS report
- Calling housing services
- Supporting a veteran with DVA paperwork
- Therapy session
- Supervision with a student
- Care team emails
- Crisis planning
- Too much coffee

It’s advocacy.
It’s systems work.
It’s therapy.
It’s problem solving.
It’s human.

This is exactly why I built Lets Reseed – Values-led Social Work Support — real, practical support across the lifespan.

If you’ve ever wondered what social work actually does, this is it.
