Thank you to all for your care and follow up. We collected our van and ute on Monday, 4 days after the event. What a time. Returning back to the place where it all happened, embraced by the incredible park managers Ram & Joy, brought closure and a peace I had not felt since the flood. Shout out to Kristy for her patience & informed, clear and compassionate communication during this time. Also to the volunteers at the relief centre when we were first evacuated.
We arrived safely at Warburton yesterday. Deepest thoughts and care for all those who have lost so much, those awaiting recovery and/salvaging of vehicles, vans and belongings and for the road ahead πŸ’œ

Yesterday after a cooler summer camping beside the Cumberland River the rain began. Rain and wind but nothing alarming. My husband and I bunkered down in our van. Just before 2pm my fella, looked out the window and said "there's a lot going on out there..people are packing in the rain" I looked out the window to my left and saw a torrent pouring down what was usually not much more than a creek. We packed in lightning speed and were about to drive out when advised, the bridge was under water and a caravan and debris were blocking the exit and vans and cars had been swept out to sea. A grab and run with basic supplies saw us taking to higher ground. The photos tell the story. Evacuated to Lorne on the last bus and arrived around 7:15. Incredible emergency services. Option to camp out with other evacuees. Grateful our sister in law was in Anglesea and with her friend Jo came to collect us. 9:15pm arrived at Anglesea. As of today advised by may take a few days before we can retrieve our Ute and van. Thank you to all who have reached out with your love, concern and care.

Celebrating National Recycling Week 🌿 I know I'm not alone when it comes to repurposing "found" treasures and reusing precious items when they have lost their initial functionality πŸ€ͺ I had a lot of fun and extended hyperfocus giving some of these "installations" a face lift in preparation for this post πŸ’š

I came up with the attached quote after my son created a bird box out of an old speaker 🐦 would love to see pics of or hear about of some of your favourite "creations"πŸ€—

At CERES last week, we experienced a moving Acknowledgement of Country and a story of loss, healing and hope.

We were deeply moved by Adrian's heartfelt Acknowledgement of Country during Day 1 of the Introduction to Working in Therapeutic Horticulture course.

His words, spoken from the heart, evoked goosebumps and tears, inviting deep reflection across our group.

Adrian shared the story of the land on which CERES stands, from the destruction of land and culture through invasion and colonisation, to the desecration when the site became a tip and surrounding industries polluted the waters.

Then came a shift in the story, as Adrian, whilst acknowledging the scars the land continues to hold, spoke about the incredible regenerative work shaped through the care and commitment of the CERES community, and the ongoing work of restoration and healing. 🌱

Adrian later reflected on the wisdom shared by Wurundjeri Woiwurrung Elder Uncle Bill, that a meaningful Acknowledgement isn’t about the words, but about speaking from the heart.

This Sunday, are holding a meetup at CERES. Adrian has generously accepted our invitation to share the story of CERES with us. This gathering is open to all interested in the world of therapeutic horticulture.

Thank you, Adrian .home.to.nature for this powerful example, and to CERES for continuing to show what it truly means to heal the earth and each other. 🌿
