Caroline Chisholm Society

Caroline Chisholm Society Here are the Caroline Chisholm Society (CCS) we believe in the empowerment of women and families; it’s one of our values.

CCS is an accredited and registered community service, specialising in the First 1000 Days and the early years working with women and their families to promote and enhance early childhood and parenting outcomes. We do this by providing support to mothers, babies, toddlers and the family that surrounds them. Founded in the 1960s by Dr Philomene Joshua and a group of volunteers in response to the re

al needs of women and children in communities across Melbourne and Goulburn Valley. Inspired by the life and work of Caroline Chisholm, who dedicated her life in providing practical assistance with accommodation, work and protection – as well as politically agitating on behalf of women and their children. The Society works with women to keep families together and prevent the involvement of child protection services in the lives of women and their children. In achieving this, the organization is clearly focused on supporting women with their pregnancy and early parenting to create safe and nurturing environments for infants and young children. We work with the whole family to support secure attachment, optimize child outcomes through parenting interventions, prevent and alleviate the impacts of poverty, homelessness, family violence and issues with mental health have on parent and child well being. Our Vision

Safe, healthy and secure homes, families and communities where mothers, babies and children are thriving. Our Mission

We exist to provide stability, security and dignity for mothers and their families. Our Values

We will develop services that are underpinned by the principles of :

- Respect for Life
- Compassion and caring
- Social Justice
- Empowerment
- Recognition of diversity
- Accountable Best Practice

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at our Caroline Chisholm Society - Goulburn Valley Info Session last week. Our team highlighted the incredible work happening across the Goulburn Valley, with more than 385 local families supported since February 2025.

We also heard from Julie Hutchins - Community Bank Strathmore about the importance of investing in local organisations and how strong community partnerships can create lasting impact.

As demand for material aid continues to grow, every donation, volunteer and partnership helps us continue providing practical support and dignity to local families doing it tough.

Do you have a million paper bags sitting in the cupboard and don’t know what to do with them?

At Caroline Chisholm Society, we’re always in need of recycled paper bags to help us pack nappies for our families.

As long as they’re clean and in good condition, if you have them, we’ll take them!

If you’re passing by our Essendon or Caroline Springs locations, keep an eye out for our blue donation bins and pop your spare paper bags in.

The Melbourne cold weather isn't over yet, and we still need your help!

We're currently in urgent need of winter jackets for boys and girls in sizes 0000–6 to help keep little ones warm this winter.

If you have great-quality pre-loved winter jackets your children have outgrown, we would be so grateful for your donations.

Every jacket donated helps us provide an essential winter item to a family who needs it.
