(HANZA), the peak body for Homeshare and its providers in Australia and New Zealand. At HANZA, we advocate for the development of homeshare in the region. We also build support and awareness of the vital work homeshare providers do in delivering housing options that are viable, affordable, and sustainable. As such, homeshare brings people together in shared households on carefully negotiated and supported shared living arrangements. Inclusive of vulnerable populations, it is underpinned by the belief that the companionship of a shared living arrangement can help negate feelings of social isolation and enhance the wellbeing of all in the household. Through the sharing of skills and experiences, the lives of those sharing are enriched with whom they share. Communities to benefit from the inclusive nature of shared living as do governments as homeshare brings significant cost savings in the provision of personal, physical, and mental health services and expensive supported residential housing options.

🏡 What if the solution to housing pressure is already in our neighbourhoods?

Homeshare pairs a household with a spare room with a compatible homeseeker, supported by professional coordination and safeguarding. The result is more housing capacity in existing homes, and stronger connections in the community.

In Victoria:

📍 Social housing makes up just 3.0% of Victoria’s housing, the lowest of any state or territory

Communities in Mt Alexander, Ballarat, Bendigo, Gippsland and beyond are already telling us they’re ready.

The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee unanimously recommended a statewide Homeshare framework and regional pilot programs. HANZA (Homeshare Australia & New Zealand Alliance) has developed that framework, and we’re proposing a 3-year pilot:
