What are You Reading?

Readers may not be writers but writers must surely be readers. What do we read and why?

Join SWWV members Anna Ciddor, Pam Joseph, Angela Costi, Rhonda Cotsell and Lindsay Bamfield for a panel discussion talking about some of their recent reading material and why they chose it. This is not only about selecting ‘top-ten’ book lists, or giving 5-star reviews or even about giving book recommendations but an honest discussion about what they read and what they gain from their reading, although some of the selections will certainly fit the top-ten and 5-star criteria. Members of the audience will be invited to share some of their choices and thoughts on reading too.

Booksellers are so important in keeping the links between relevant books and students

We were thrilled to see a great writeup about author Hazel Edwards OAM and her recent workshop with Mallacoota P-12 College. The school were winners of a regional literacy competition organised by Karen Fleischer from Reading for Kids Gippsland, and I was delighted to donate a copy of Hazel’s young adult novel Wasted? to the school. 📖

Set in a futuristic mid-ocean garbage patch, Wasted? follows young asylum seekers who become innovators — repurposing waste, generating biofuel and using science to forge a new future. 🌊♻️🔬

It’s a fascinating read with plenty to spark discussion, making it a great choice for Science Week. We were also lucky enough to host Hazel for an author talk at Schoolworks a few months ago, where she talked about her new book and her work as an author.
