Alamein Neighbourhood and Learning We are a community centre located opposite Alamein Railway Station.

Alamein is a community house offering English, computer, employment & wellbeing courses, a men's shed, a community garden, a strong volunteer program, community referrals and events. We offer courses in work preparation, computers, healthy lifestyles, English, Literacy and Numeracy, horticulture and many more. We have a Men's Shed and run Community lunches and have fortnightly bus trips for people

RIP Dolly Parton

What an amazing woman! As well as a singer, songwriter, actress and business woman, did you know Dolly was a philanthropist? She believed that literacy was very important as she recognised her dad missed out on so many opportunities due to his low literacy skills. Dolly donated millions of dollars towards educational scholarships and set up the Imagination Library, which gives away millions of books each month to children to support their literacy.

Just like Dolly, we know how important literacy is in everyday life. That’s why we run our Literacy for Practical Purposes course (a literacy and English course for adults) and always have our tiny libraries packed with books for both adults and children. If you want to check out our libraries, remember they are open 24x7 just outside our centre and on the pocket park fence.

Feel like reading a good book while travelling on the train or relaxing at home rather than scrolling on your phone? Drop by our tiny libraries and you can pick up a mystery, a biography, a novel, and many other genres too, and best of all it's free :-)

😄 Fun times this morning at Alamein.

🌧️☕️😎🗣️ It might be grey and rainy outside, but lots of sunny dispositions here with chatty cafe talking about things in the news and getting around Melbourne, while they enjoyed some yummy goodies and a coffee.

Happy International Lefthanders Day!

We have some fabulous lefthanders at Alamein: teachers, staff, students and volunteers. Thank you to them all!

And we love how one of our leftie volunteers is highlighting the White Sauce Pasta class that is on next Tuesday (18 Aug) from 1-3pm. The class is run by James, the amazing chef. There are a couple of spots left and the cost is only $45, which includes the recipes and tasting the various dishes you cook!
