Do you know a young person in Maroondah who has shown perseverance, creativity or leadership that deserves to be recognised? Or do you know a group of young people who have shown exceptional teamwork?

You can make such a positive impact by taking the time to nominate them for a Maroondah Youth Award 🙌

❗Nominees must be between the age of 10-25 and have a connection to Maroondah 🌿

For Wear It Purple Day 2026, our Youth Services team are sharing the everyday ways they support, affirm and stand alongside LGBTQIA+ young people 🏳️‍🌈

Colours of Courage celebrates the bravery it takes to push for change, the courage of generations of LGBTQIA+ people who came before us, and the strength of young people today as they build community, connection and visibility ✨️

Courage isn’t only found in the big moments. It’s in the everyday choices to live proudly, support others and create spaces grounded in understanding, acceptance and celebration 💜

Today we celebrate LGBTIQA+ young people, allies, and communities. This year’s theme, Colours of Courage, recognises the many ways courage shows up every day.

Wear purple to show your support for diversity, inclusion, and young people being their authentic selves. 🌈

Meet your Proudly Q facilitators, Indi and Kater! 🌈✨

Who is your LGBTIQA+ role model?

🌈Kater: Georgie Stone for sure! Georgie is an incredibly brave advocate who has used her own experience to improve medical and mental health outcomes for trans and gender diverse youth. Georgie was the youngest person to receive puberty blockers in Australia, which helped change the law around access to the first stage of medical treatment for transgender adolescents. Georgie also approached the producers of Neighbours to introduce the first trans character, and then went on to co-write and play the character - such a cool way to be the change she wanted to see in the world!

💛 Indi: This is a personal one, but probably my Auntie. She was the first openly gay person I ever knew growing up and when I was young there was something so cool and different about knowing she wasn't like anyone else in my life yet. She has always been unapologetically herself and I have always looked up to her for that. She is just a hilariously funny, strong, and staunch woman who showed me you can still be your goofy self no matter how old you get. I feel incredibly lucky to have had such a positive role model in my life
