Ever had one of those "What should I be doing with my child?" moments? You might already have the answer at home.

Earlier this year, every Goodstart family received a What & When for Families guide for each child. If it's been tucked away in a drawer since then, now might be the perfect time to pull it back out.

The guide is packed with simple, play-based activities that support your child's learning and development at home. Best of all, it's written in your child's voice, with ideas tailored to their age and developmental stage.

From singing songs with babies and playing peek-a-boo, to "I Spy" games, storytelling and treasure hunts with older children, the activities are designed to fit naturally into everyday moments you already share together.

We know learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. Those small moments at home can help build big communication, language and literacy skills.

💙👖 Jeans for Genes Day 👖💙

Our children participated in a special collaborative art experience to celebrate Jeans for Genes Day. Using colourful feathers, yarn, ribbons, and textured materials, they transformed a pair of jeans into a vibrant artwork that represents individuality, diversity, and inclusion.

Just as every genetic makeup is unique, every child's contribution to this artwork was different and equally important. Together, the many colours, textures, and creative ideas came together to create something beautiful, reflecting the strength that comes from celebrating our differences and supporting one another.

This meaningful experience encouraged conversations about kindness, empathy, and the importance of helping families affected by genetic conditions.

We are so proud of our children's creativity and the thoughtful way they engaged with this important cause.

💤 Pyjama Week 💤

From 20 July to 24 July, we celebrated Pyjama Week with lots of fun, creativity, and community spirit!

The children came dressed in their favourite pyjamas, warm robes, and cosy sleepwear, making the week extra special. Throughout the week, they enjoyed a variety of activities, including decorating pyjamas with colouring materials and feathers, allowing them to express their creativity and have fun with their friends.

Pyjama Week is more than just a fun dress-up event, it is an opportunity to raise awareness and support children in foster care. By wearing their pyjamas, we helped spark conversations about the challenges some children face and highlighted the importance of providing safe, loving, and supportive homes for children who cannot live with their families.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported our fundraiser and donated to our fundraising page. Your generosity will help make a positive difference and is greatly appreciated.

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

This week, our children have been exploring and celebrating NAIDOC Week, learning about the rich histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Through creative experiences including handprint artwork, collaborative displays, and Indigenous-inspired craft activities, the children have been engaging in meaningful conversations about connection, respect, belonging and community.

As we celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC Week, we recognise the strength, resilience and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and acknowledge the importance of sharing these stories with future generations.

We are proud to create opportunities for children to learn about Australia's First Nations cultures in ways that are engaging, respectful and age-appropriate.

🌿National Reconciliation Week at Goodstart Narre Warren South Sherwood Road🌿

Children explored culture and creativity through hands-on experiences using natural materials like flowers, leaves, sticks, and coloured sand to create rainbow-inspired collages. They engaged with sand, mud, and water while learning about Aboriginal symbols and storytelling.

🥖 Children also made bush tucker damper, building practical skills and understanding of traditional foods.

🌿 National Reconciliation Week 27 May – 3 June🌿

This week, we acknowledge and celebrate National Reconciliation Week — a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

This week is especially meaningful. It provides an opportunity for children to begin developing respect, understanding, and appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Through stories, art, music, and conversations, we help build a strong foundation of inclusion, empathy, and belonging.

We believe that learning about diversity from an early age supports children to grow into respectful and inclusive individuals. Together, we take small but meaningful steps towards a more united and respectful future.

🌸 Mother’s Day at Goodstart Early Learning- Narre Warren South Sherwood Road 🌸

Last week, the children had a wonderful time celebrating Mother’s Day with some creative and hands-on activities! 💖

From decorating delicious biscuits with colourful icing and sprinkles, to creating beautiful handmade cards and crafts, everyone put in so much effort to make something special for their loved ones.

We also enjoyed a relaxing pamper moment with a little nail painting 💅 a fun way to show care and appreciation.

It was lovely to see the creativity, excitement, and thoughtfulness that each child brought to their work. These heartfelt creations were made with love and are sure to bring big smiles at home! 💝

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mothers and caregivers in our community! 🌷
