The Victorian Multicultural Commission and Blacksand Pictures recently hosted a community consultation with members of Victoria’s African Australian community to discuss media, representation and storytelling in Australia.

A key message from the discussion was the importance of creating more opportunities for African Australians to tell their own stories, in their own voices, and to see their experiences authentically represented in Australian media.

This was followed by the premiere of ‘Tastes of Africa’, a three part doco series showcasing the people and stories behind iconic African dishes.

Candlelight vigil for Nepal flood victims

The recent devastating floods in Nepal and surrounding regions have brought immense loss and suffering to many families and communities.

The Victorian Multicultural Commission stands in solidarity with Victoria’s Nepali community and the people of Nepal, during this difficult time.

We encourage Victorians to join with the Nepali community at Federation Square, tonight, to remember those who have lost their lives and pray for those affected.

🚆 Public transport is now half price across Victoria!

From 1 June 2025 until 1 January 2027, reduced public transport fares are available for all passengers, including concession card holders.

More affordable transport can help Victorians stay connected to work, education, services and community activities. Passengers can access the reduced fares by tapping on or purchasing a ticket as usual.

SBS WorldWatch is moving to SBS On Demand.

From 18 September 2026, SBS WorldWatch will transition from its television channel to an expanded digital service on SBS On Demand, giving multilingual communities greater flexibility to access international news in their preferred language.

The expanded service will provide international news from 49 broadcasters in 38 languages, with two or more daily bulletins available in most languages.

SBS is providing multilingual information and guidance to help communities prepare for the change. SBS WorldWatch channel 35 will close on Friday 18 September 2026.

The program offers community organisations grants of up to $40,000 to deliver anti-racism programs.

The funding supports First Peoples, multicultural and multifaith organisations to deliver tailored programs and activities that meet the needs of their local community.
