On this day, one year ago, two of our colleagues were tragically killed in the line of duty.

Today, and every day, we remember Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart and the tragedy that occurred in Porepunkah on 26 August 2025.

We thank everyone for their support and solidarity on this difficult day.

We will remember them.

A text. A phone call. A code.

That’s all it took for scammers to steal enough money from Lindy to leave her in debt.

“They rush you through it and make you panic.”

Behind every scam report is a real person and a real story.

It takes seconds to steal a number plate. It only takes minutes to help secure one.
✅ Secure your number plates with anti-theft screws or pop rivets.
✅ Park in a garage or driveway where possible.
✅ Consider sensor lighting and CCTV at home.
✅ Park in well-lit areas when on the street.

Stolen number plates are often used to avoid identification while committing offences, which can leave vehicle owners dealing with unwanted fines and other complications.

Through our SafePL8 program, Victoria Police, SES and Neighbourhood Watch regularly attend community events to fit anti-theft screws and share practical advice on keeping your number plates secure.

Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged a 16-year-old boy in relation to a ram raid and fire, causing around $2 million in damages to businesses in Abbotsford last month.

Emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a convenience store on Victoria Street on Monday 6 July about 4.15am.

It’s alleged unknown offenders drove an allegedly stolen Mazda CX5 into the business before setting the building alight and fleeing the scene on foot.

It is understood multiple businesses were affected by the fire with the unoccupied convenience store completely destroyed.

Two women were residing within one of the adjacent businesses and were forced to flee the fire.

Detectives executed a warrant at a property in the Moonee Valley area and arrested a 16-year-old boy.

He has since been charged with arson, reckless conduct endangering life and theft of motor vehicle and was remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

It only takes a few seconds to stop, look and follow the signs. 🚆

Rail crossings are shared by drivers, pedestrians and trains, and ignoring the rules can have serious consequences.

When you see flashing red lights, come to a complete stop. Stop before the boom gates and never queue across the tracks. Give Way and Stop signs are a given - follow them every time.

Take the extra few seconds.
