Road trips are about snacks, playlists and missing an exit… or two. But getting there safely is what matters most. 🙂‍↕️

With a long weekend ahead, this your reminder to stay alert, limit distractions and drive to the conditions.

The best part of a road trip isn’t just the destination - it’s the BIG stops along the way… yes, even the mildly terrifying koala ones.

The snow season is here. ❄️

With tens of thousands of visitors expected across Victoria’s alpine region, police will be out in force helping to keep roads, resorts and communities safe.

Last season, police responded to 26 search and rescue incidents across Mt Buller, Mt Hotham and Falls Creek, while more than 4,000 vehicles were turned around for failing to carry required wheel chains.

If you’re heading to the snow:
🚗 Carry the correct wheel chains and know how to fit them
🏔️ Stick to designated tracks and avoid hiking alone
🎒 Pack extra food, water and warm clothing
🌨️ Check weather and road conditions before you travel

Plan ahead, prepare for changing conditions and enjoy everything Victoria’s alpine region has to offer this winter.

While on patrol in the St Albans Railway Station car park, PSOs had the pleasure of meeting Tomo.

Originally from Croatia, Tomo arrived in Australia at 21 and has called St Albans home for 68 years. Travelling through the station precinct, Tomo was all smiles and even happier to stop and have a chat with PSO members.

Tomo shared stories about his life and family, including his children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren. Tomo describes himself as a very lucky man, and it’s easy to see why.

Before heading off, they snapped a few photos together to remember the moment.

It’s interactions like these that highlight what community engagement is all about, taking the time to connect, listen and build genuine relationships with the people in our local community.

Winter has arrived in Victoria, which means shorter days, wet roads and mysteriously fewer Melbourne supporters at the MCG.

If you’re heading away this King’s Birthday long weekend, take extra care behind the wheel.

Changing road conditions can catch drivers out quickly - slow down, leave extra space between vehicles, avoid distractions and never drive impaired.

And if you’re heading to the snow, make sure you’re carrying and fitting wheel chains when required.
