General Practice Supervision Australia

General Practice Supervision Australia Australia's peak for the GP supervisors and practice teams entrusted with nurturing tomorrow's GPs

GPSA serves as Australia’s primary organization for GP/RG supervisors and training practices, representing approximately 10,000 members. We support supervision in its various forms, prioritizing support for supervisors, practice managers, and training practices developing future general practitioners (GPs) and rural generalists (RGs). Through active engagement with our members, we advocate for enh

anced training conditions, emphasizing sustainability and professional fulfillment as pivotal factors in providing best practice supervision and attracting more doctors to General Practice. GPSA is committed to fostering the enthusiasm that propels the GP training sector forward, offering service, support, research, innovation, education, and advocacy. Our vision is to champion a thriving GP training sector that is cohesive, duly acknowledged, rewarded, and respected as the cornerstone of Australia's healthcare system.

Today on World Family Doctor Day, we celebrate the incredible family doctors caring for communities across Australia and around the world.

We also recognise the GP supervisors, educators and practice teams who are shaping the next generation of GPs every day. Their guidance, mentorship and commitment ensure future doctors are skilled, supported and ready to provide high-quality care where it’s needed most.

Thank you to all family doctors and supervisors for the vital role you play in strengthening primary care and inspiring the future of general practice.

We’re now officially over halfway through the inaugural 24-hour GPSA Online Supervision Symposium - and Simon Morgan and Justin Coleman are heading into uncharted waters as they push through the overnight stretch of this extraordinary learning marathon!

This afternoon featured even more fantastic sessions, including a special presentation from Australia’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Michael Kidd. A former GP supervisor himself, Dr Kidd spoke passionately about the importance of supervision and the enormous value supervisors bring to the future of general practice.

There’s still so much more to come overnight, including sessions on:
• Preparing medical students for future clinical practice
• Training for continuity during residency in general practice
• Supporting IMG learners in family medicine
…and much more!

Nearly halfway through the inaugural 24-hour GPSA Online Supervision Symposium - and what an incredible journey so far!

We’re sharing just a few moments from today’s sessions (photos attached) as presenters from across Australia and around the world deliver an outstanding program of diverse, engaging and inspiring discussions.

100's of participants have joined us from around Australia and also from Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, Vanuatu, Netherlands and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei land, making this a truly global event.

One of today’s highlights was hearing live from RACGP President Prof Michael Wright AO, who joined us from Canberra ahead of tonight’s Federal Budget announcement.

There’s still plenty more to come - and it’s not too late to join us! Hosted by Drs Simon Morgan and Dr Justin Coleman, the symposium continues through the night until 8.00 am Wednesday 13 May (AEST).

Be part of this bold and groundbreaking event.
