Communication is more than words ☺️

It's how children express their needs, share ideas, build relationships, and connect with the world around them.

This Speech Pathology Week, we're sharing simple strategies that families and educators can use every day to support children's speech, language and communication development:

✨ Acknowledge and respond to all communication attempts
✨ Keep language simple and clear, using short, meaningful sentences
✨ Give children extra time to process information and respond
✨ Focus on connection and conversation by making comments

Remember, every child develops communication skills at their own pace, and every interaction is an opportunity to support learning.

This week, we celebrate speech pathologists and the invaluable work they do to help children find their voice, build confidence, and participate fully in their communities 💛

Celebrating our ICT Interns, Inaam & Sajid 💻

Over the course of their placements with Windermere, Inaam and Sajid gained valuable hands-on experience while contributing to a range of ICT and cyber security initiatives ✨

💬 Their advice for other students considering an ICT placement - "Ask questions, be proactive, embrace every learning opportunity, and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone."

A huge thank you to Inaam and Sajid for their enthusiasm, curiosity, and contributions to the ICT team and the wider organisation. We look forward to seeing where their journeys take them next 🧡

Snow much fun! ❄️

What an amazing day our Family Day Care Educator Rhianna and her little adventurers had exploring the snow in Mt Baw Baw!

From crunching through fresh snow and making snow angels to lots of laughter and excitement, the children experienced a day full of wonder, discovery, and unforgettable memories ⛄

Thank you, Rhianna, for creating such a special experience and helping children learn through exploration and adventure 💙

This week, we're celebrating Speech Pathology Week and raising awareness of the many ways we can support children's communication skills 🗣️

One valuable communication tool is Key Word Sign (KWS). Key Word Sign combines simple signs with spoken words, helping children understand language, express their needs, and engage more confidently with others 😊

Using signs alongside speech can reduce frustration, support language development, and provide children with an additional way to communicate while their spoken language continues to grow.

At Windermere, we recognise that every child communicates differently, and we are committed to supporting inclusive communication practices that help all children feel heard, understood, and connected 🧡

Windermere recently welcomed Victorian Victims of Crime Commissioner Elizabeth Langdon and her team to learn more about the work of our Southern Victims Assistance Program (VAP) and Family Violence Services.

The visit included time at Pakenham Police Station and our Toomah office, where practitioners shared insights into supporting people impacted by violent crime, family violence, and sexual violence, as well as the challenges victim survivors can face when navigating service and justice systems.

The discussions highlighted the value of strong partnerships, connected services and accessible support for those who need it most.

A special thank you to Southern VAP Team Leader Jess, whose leadership and relationship-building helped create meaningful opportunities for the Commissioner to engage with communities, practitioners, and partners across the region.
