Greater Bendigo carers are awesome! A healing shout out to all you sound healing carers! đź’—

It was wonderful to see so many of you experience the restorative benefits of a Sound Healing Come and Try session in the calm and welcoming space provided.

So lovely to see carers relax, recharge, and focus on their emotional and mental wellbeing through the guided sound healing practice.

It was a beautiful moment of self-care, mindfulness, and connection over a delightful shared meal.

Participants reported feeling relaxed, refreshed, and appreciative of the opportunity to prioritise themselves in a supportive group environment.

What happens when culture and care come together in one space?

This week we’re highlighting the Sampaguita Carers Circle, delivered by Australian-Filipino Community Services . With support from the Connecting Carers in their Community (CCC) program, this group has:

- Created a culturally safe and inclusive space for Filipino carers
- Strengthened connection through shared language, traditions, and lived experiences
- Reduced isolation by building a supportive and understanding community

“Being with people who understand your culture and your caring role, makes you feel less alone.”

What started as a space to connect has grown into a vibrant circle of support, where carers can share stories, find comfort, and celebrate identity together. Named after the Sampaguita flower, a symbol of resilience and strength, this group reflects the quiet courage and care Filipino carers bring every day.

This is what community-led care looks like, culturally connected, deeply supportive, and built on belonging.

Did you know you can get free health advice 24/7?

1800MEDICARE (1800 633 422) is a free national service that connects you with a registered nurse for expert health advice in non-emergency situations. 📞

The nurse will ask about your concerns and symptoms and guide you to the right care. This could be looking after yourself at home or getting help from a GP, Medicare Urgent Care Clinic, pharmacy or emergency department. 🩺

Anyone, anywhere in Australia can use the service and you don’t need a Medicare card. For emergencies, you should always call Triple Zero (000).

Are you faced with the decision of premature entry into residential aged care for the person you care for?

We are increasingly hearing that carers are trying to delay this by seeking respite options in the community that offer connection, activity and independence for the older person they care for.

We see you, and we’re advocating for help for you. Yesterday, our CEO Judith Abbott joined sector leaders from government, peak bodies and service providers at Ageing Australia’s Continuum of Ageing roundtable to discuss this matter.

It was an important step in ensuring your voice and lived experience continues to shape the future of aged care. As peak body, for unpaid carers, Carers Victoria will continue advocating for you and all carers.
