πŸ‘€πŸ”₯ Can you pick the fire dangers in this nursery?

Many of the everyday items we put in our bedrooms, including our children’s bedrooms, can pose a fire risk to you and your littlest ones. πŸ‘Άβ€οΈ

πŸ”Œ Check electrical items
⚑ Don’t overload power boards
🚨 Have working smoke alarms
πŸ™Œ Keep items that could pose a risk away from little hands

How many dangers can you spot in the picture? πŸ‘€

πŸš’βœ¨ Spotted the new signs outside our station?

πŸ’‘You may have noticed some new signs and warning lights installed on Kangaroo Ground–Wattle Glen Road, on either side of the Wattle Glen Fire Station.

So… what are they for? πŸ‘€πŸ‘‡

πŸš’ When our trucks are responding to an emergency, brigade members can activate the warning lights before leaving the station.

✴️When the lights are flashing, an emergency vehicle may be entering the road.

⚠️ What do you need to do?
🐌 Slow down
πŸ‘€ Stay alert
πŸ›‘ Be prepared to stop safely if required

Our station sits on a bend, and over the years our crews have experienced a number of near misses with other vehicles while entering the road under emergency conditions.

🦺 The new signs are designed to reduce the risk of a serious collision β€” helping keep our crews AND everyone travelling through the area safer.

πŸ—“οΈ It’s also been a long time coming!

The project was first raised by the brigade back in 2018. After years of persistence and several funding applications, we received funding through the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) in 2024.

πŸŽ‰ In August 2026 β€” eight years later β€” the new warning system was finally completed! πŸ₯³

πŸ‘ A big thank you to the past and present brigade members who kept this project moving over the years.

🚨 See the lights flashing? Slow down, stay alert and give our trucks room to respond safely. πŸš’

πŸ‘ΆπŸ  Young children aged 0–4 are at high risk of home fire fatalities, burns and scald injuries, and fire play in the home.

🚨 CFA and FRV recommend installing smoke alarms in all sleeping areas, particularly where children under 10 sleep.

If you have young children β€” especially if they sleep with their bedroom door closed β€” make sure there is a smoke alarm in their room and check regularly that it is working. ❀️

πŸ”₯🏠 Fire safety for people at higher risk 🏠πŸ”₯

Did you know that almost two thirds of people who die in house fires have a disability?

In Victoria, an average of 18 people die in preventable residential house fires every year πŸš’

CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria have developed a free online learning module to help people at higher risk of fire, and those who support or care for them, plan for fire emergencies at home.

πŸ“š Prevent, Detect, Escape – Home Fire Safety for people at higher risk covers practical steps to help prevent fires, detect them early and safely escape.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ It’s designed for people at increased risk of fire, as well as family members, carers and support workers.

πŸ”₯❀️ Helping those who need us most ❀️πŸ”₯

Emergencies don’t affect everyone in the same way.

People aged over 65 and people living with disability can face additional challenges when it comes to preparing for and escaping fires and other emergencies. 🏠

That’s why CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria are working with the aged care and disability care sectors to help make fire safety more accessible and practical.

πŸ‘©β€πŸš’ If you work in aged care or disability support, CFA has a dedicated hub with resources, information and practical tools to help you support the people in your care.

πŸ“š You’ll find resources covering home fire safety, bushfire preparedness, e-learning and more.

Every person deserves the opportunity to be as prepared and safe as possible. πŸ’›
