HELP YOUNG STUDENTS IN ROB RIVER - A message from current year 9 students, Tiana and Laura:
If you are able to help, please email [email protected]
Dear Old Carey Grammarians,
Our names are Tiana and Laura and we are year 9 students at Carey involved in the C-change Program. We are working on a project which will benefit indigenous children and students from Robinson River, a remote indigenous community located in the Northern Territory.
As many of you would know, our school participates in an exchange program with the community and we have developed many close connections with the people in their community.
Due to their financial circumstances, they have limited resources and money and very limited schooling options, with all the children of their community overcrowded into only two classes. Often as the students grow older, they receive indigenous scholarships and are sent off to boarding schools to be able to further their education.
It has come to our attention that amongst other things, they have a lack of toiletries during their transition to boarding school, and this is where we want to help out.
So the reason we are writing to you today is to ask for your assistance in supporting our project of creating 50 Essentials packs which we can give to the indigenous students to take with them to start boarding school. This would mean they have one less thing to worry about at a time which will be full of stress and anxiety. We have previously contacted organizations about providing the following, however, all of them have indicated prior commitments to other charity groups. This is where we need your help. We would love to hear from anyone who has a connection to an organization which may be able to help us source the following items which we would love to make up into packs and donate to the Rob River school kids.
- Deodorant
- Body soap/shower gel
- Hand soap
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Shaving cream
- Razors
- Sanitary products
- Toothbrushes
- Toothpaste
- Hair-ties
- Hair brushes
Your assistance with any of the above items would be immensely appreciated, and if you are able to assist, please contact us so we can organize the pick-up of any items.
Your kind support for this cause will make such a big difference to 50 boys’ and girls’ health and self-esteem.
