On Friday, July 3 at 8:00am, our brigade responded to an automatic fire alarm at a public storage facility on Koornang Road, Scoresby. Upon arrival, crews were confronted with a confirmed fire within one of the storage units.

As the incident escalated, additional resources and specialist appliances were requested to assist crews in managing the complex and challenging fire.

Firstly, we want to acknowledge and sincerely thank every member from all emergency services and supporting agencies who has attended this incident. Your professionalism, dedication and tireless efforts have been nothing short of outstanding.

This has been an incredibly complex fire to contain and extinguish. Self-storage facilities present significant risks to firefighters because the contents of each storage unit are unknown. The methods or agents required to extinguish a fire in one unit can potentially react with materials stored in neighbouring units, creating additional hazards and making the operation far more challenging.

To put the scale of this incident into perspective, more than 250 firefighters have worked tirelessly over the past 50 hours. The number of hours contributed by crews is simply immeasurable, and their commitment has been extraordinary.

Finally, to the members of the public, we completely understand the impact this incident has had on you, your families and your businesses. We know this has been a difficult and stressful time for many. Thank you for your patience, understanding and support while firefighters continue working to ensure the fire is made safe and fully extinguished.

To everyone involved, thank you for your unwavering commitment and dedication to protecting our community.

Today is International Firefighters’ Day!

We’re proud to work alongside our counterparts at Fire Rescue Victoria and Forest Fire Management Victoria in responding to fire emergencies in our community.

In December 1998, five CFA (Country Fire Authority) firefighters lost their lives fighting a bushfire in Linton, 150km west of Melbourne.

This tragic event rocked the firefighting community. To recognise the sacrifice of those firefighters, and the work of firefighters around the world, International Firefighters' Day was established in 1999.

The date, 4 May, was chosen to coincide with St Florian's Day - the patron saint of firefighters.

Day and night - in the heat, cold or rain - firefighters answer the call to assist our communities every day of the year.

Today, we're thinking about what they give up to protect lives and property.

Thank you CFA (Country Fire Authority), Forest Fire Management Victoria and Fire Rescue Victoria for everything you do to help keep Victorians safe ❤️💙

Working smoke alarms mean lives and properties saved. ⏰

This week Scoresby Fire Brigade CFA crews extinguished a dishwasher fire at a residential property in Scoresby.

The home’s occupants were alerted to the fire when their smoke alarm activated.

Because of the early detection, their immediate call to Triple Zero (000), and a quick response from crews on scene, the rest of the house was able to be spared from further fire damage.

If weather and forest conditions are suitable, firefighters from the Metropolitan District will ignite the Mount Dandenong – Trig Track planned burn on Wednesday 22 April.

The 37 hectare burn is being undertaken to reduce risk of bushfire to Mount Dandenong and surrounding communities.

The burn will be ignited over two days. FFMVic crews will continue to patrol and monitor in the days following.

🚷Walking tracks surrounding the planned burn area, including a section of Ridge Walk will be closed for the duration of the burn.

Without planned burning and other fuel management works, bushfires will be bigger and harder for our firefighters to control.

🔥You may see or smell smoke.
👀Watch for our crews and follow their directions.
📞If you experience symptoms that may be due to smoke exposure, please seek medical advice or call NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 60 60 24.
ℹ️Detailed information about current air quality throughout Victoria can be found at www.epa.vic.gov.au

Unexpected weather conditions can mean plans change at the last minute and a burn may not go ahead, even if communities have already been notified.

When this happens, our crews will continue to monitor the conditions and re-schedule the burn for a later date.
