September is su***de prevention month in Australia. While it can be difficult to talk about, it's necessary. As Chloe says below, your voice can make a difference ⬇️
It’s a time to reflect, raise awareness, and take action to save lives. Su***de remains one of the most devastating public health issues in our country with an average of 10 people per day dying from su***de.
As mentioned previously mental health has been a massive factor in my life journey, living with severe anxiety and depression since my early teens, and like many I’ve faced head on the shame, guilt and isolation that often surrounds suicidal thoughts. I understand firsthand how those feelings mess with your psychology, how hard they make it to seek help, how you feel like a burden – but that doesn’t mean that you’re hopeless or alone.
Su***de is complex – with no single cause, it often intersects with trauma, pain, and mental illness. But it is preventable, and everybody can make a difference. Yes, I’m talking about you. Talking openly and with compassion about mental health is one way to make a difference by directly reducing shame and stigma. A small act but it creates significant progress.
This su***de prevention month, join me and commit to being part of change and progress. Listen without judgement, offer support without conditions, and encourage others to seek help early.
No one should face their darkest moments alone, be the spark that draws attention to the cause – reach out and speak up. You might just save a life.
