🚒 International Firefighter Day – Community Visit 🚒

Merbein CFA were honoured to be invited by our smaller friends at Generations Early Learning Centre to help celebrate International Firefighter Day, alongside FFMV Mildura.

The morning was jam‑packed with hands-on activities including exploring firefighting vehicles, hose drills, and important home fire safety lessons. The children were curious, engaged, and full of great questions!

The hardest part of the day was trying to work out who was more excited to be there – us or the kids!

A big thank you to the wonderful educators and children at Generations Early Learning Centre for the warm invitation, and to our volunteers at Merbein CFA and FFMV Mildura for making the morning such a memorable one. 👏🔥

Happy Good Friday everyone!

Merbein Fire Brigade are out and about this morning around Merbein collecting Donations for the Good Friday Appeal.

All proceeds go directly to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

Our collection points are:

Corner of River Avenue
Ranfurly Way
Corner of Channel Road
Main Avenue North Service Station

Please be mindful it is 40km past Emergency Services with flashing red and blue lights.

With Easter just around the corner and Daylight savings it’s the perfect time to check all your smoke alarms around your home.

This should be done regularly to ensure safety in case of a fire in your home.

Big thanks to the NRMA Mildura Riverside Holiday Park for supporting us and allowing Merbein Fire Brigade to use their facilities for our Thursday training. The crews focused on team building exercises, breathing apparatus controllers (BACO) and had a great time working on skill building. Very challenging environment for our crews to operate in low light. Appreciate the local support and allowing us to use your facilities.

Tomorrow 11/02/2026 is a Total Fire Ban Day.

A Total Fire Ban means no fire can be lit in the open air or allowed to remain alight.

Can I have a BBQ on a TFB Day?

Answer:
Yes, you can use a gas BBQ on a Total Fire Ban (TFB) day in Victoria, but only if it's gas or electric, used for meal prep, and you follow strict rules: clear 3m around it, have 10L water or a hose ready, stay with it, and extinguish it completely before leaving; solid fuel BBQs (wood, charcoal) are banned.
