🚨 Smoke Alarm Action Day 🚨

Last year, nearly half the homes damaged or destroyed by fire across NSW did not have a working smoke alarm installed.

As we move into the cooler months and households begin using heaters, electric blankets and fireplaces more frequently, now is the perfect time to check your home’s fire safety.

A working smoke alarm provides critical early warning in the event of a fire, giving you and your loved ones the best chance to get out safely, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000).

🚒 Merewether Fire Station – Year in Review 🚒

Merewether Fire Station has responded to 919 incidents so far this year — a busy and demanding operational tempo for our crews.

Our responses included structure fires, bushfires, vehicle accidents, hazardous materials, alarms and community assistance across Merewether and the wider region.

This year also saw our firefighters deployed to major incidents beyond our local area, including the St Marys 20th Alarm structure fire, one of the largest Fire and Rescue NSW responses in recent years, working alongside hundreds of firefighters in challenging conditions.

Every response is delivered by retained firefighters balancing emergency operations with full-time work and family life.

As the year closes, we remain ready to respond and protect life and property whenever called.

Thank you for your continued support. 🚒🔥

🚒 Redhead Bushfire – Incident Update🚒

At 2:00am this morning, Merewether Fire Station was responded to a bushfire burning in the Redhead area. Our crew was initially tasked with property protection, working to defend homes as the fire moved through bushland.🔥

At around 8:00am, a strengthening southerly wind pushed fire activity toward Redhead Road. Due to the changing conditions, our crew was re-tasked to Redhead Road, where 2-metre flames were threatening to cross the roadway.

Working alongside FRNSW and NSW RFS crews, firefighters successfully stopped the fire from jumping Redhead Road, preventing further impact to nearby properties and infrastructure.đźš’

Our crew continued with containment and hotspotting efforts until being released at 11:00am.

Thank you to the local community for your cooperation, and to all firefighters who worked tirelessly throughout the morning.

🔥MEREWETHER IN THE BIG SMOKE🔥

At approximately 2:30pm, P376 Merewether was called to stand by at Huntingwood Fire Station.

While en route, the crew was redirected directly to the St Marys incident, where a Structure Fire – Greater than 10th Alarm was underway — the highest level of response within Fire and Rescue NSW.

Over the course of the operation, more than 200 firefighters were rotated through the fireground, supported by over 50 appliances.

Merewether’s crew provided breathing apparatus (BA) teams and utilised foam to extinguish a tanker truck and multiple hotspots within the rubble, assisting in containing and suppressing the deep-seated fire.

After several hours of operations, our crew is still onscene assisting.

The incident remains ongoing and is expected to continue for some time as crews work to fully extinguish the fire.
