Lake Street Wharf Walk

Lake Street Wharf Walk A joint pedestrian/cycle path along the entire length of Lake Street. What is proposed

A joint pedestrian/cycle path along the entire length of Lake Street.

The current problem

Lake Street in Merimbula is a busy 1.7k tourist road that winds its way from Cliff Street to
the Merimbula Wharf. It is the only access to the popular Bar Beach surf/swim spot and
the main access to the popular Merimbula Wharf. It is a narrow two-lane road with no provision at all for pedestrians and is dangerous for cyclists. This would enable
runners, walkers, wheelchair

users, cyclists, fisherpersons and surfers etc to negotiate
Lake Street safely. There is the potential for bridges across the three ravines in order to
avoid some sharp corners. This would allow views into the tree canopy that exists along
the lakefront. The good things

The 1.7km track would lead you around the lake’s edge across clifftops with stunning views of Merimbula Lake, the Wharf, the ocean (maybe whales!) and the hinterland including Mount Imlay. It will mean an easy and safe way to get to cycle or walk to Bar Beach to have a swim and a surf (and a coffee) and a great cycle way/footpath to get you to another great coffee/lunch spot at the Merimbula Wharf Restaurant.
