🦋ARTIST PROFILE – Sarah Gee
Join Sarah’s Build a Bug workshop today at Helensvale Library from 9am.

Based on the land of the Kombumerri families of the Yugambeh language region, emerging multidisciplinary artist Sarah Gee brings nature to life through vibrant illustrations, felted sculptures and paintings. Her work celebrates local native and endangered insects, weaving storytelling with the colours, textures and patterns found in the natural world. Sarah’s art sparks curiosity, joy and a deeper care for our environment.

Sarah is an Artist-in-Residence at Helensvale Library through the Creative Spaces program.

🖌️ ARTIST PROFILE – Darcy McGrath
See her exhibition + live art demo at Helensvale Library, Wednesday 27 May, 9am–12pm.

Gold Coast–born multidisciplinary artist Darcy McGrath transforms the strange, overlooked and “undesirable” into something unexpectedly beautiful. Working across painting, sculpture and textiles, she reimagines subjects often dismissed — giving them care, detail and a fresh sense of wonder.

Her featured series Arthropod Armoire, created during the Level Up Incubator Residency, blends Australian insects with hyper‑feminine aesthetics like glitter, ribbons and ornate embellishment. Using second‑hand materials, she builds layered assemblages that turn discomfort into curiosity and challenge how we see the natural world.

Darcy’s work celebrates the intricate, the odd, and the easily ignored — inviting viewers to look closer and find fascination where they least expect it.
