Mernda CFA The Mernda Fire Brigade has been proudly serving the community with dedication and courage since 1973 They have diverse backgrounds, interests and skills.

There are many different types of volunteer roles at CFA
By making a contribution to your community you will make new friends, learn new skills and be part of Victoria's largest volunteer team. CFA Volunteers Make a Difference
Volunteers come from all walks of life. One thing common to them all is their desire to put something back into their community. You don't need experience to join CFA as we will provide you with all the necessary training. The training is aligned with National Competency Standards so your new skills will be recognised throughout Australia. The job isn't all fighting fires, and there are many support roles that help brigades, and will also help you to build professional skills. The safety of our people is very important to CFA. This means that new volunteer firefighters need to undertake the right training before attending fires, and this can take up to six months. Training is run after hours and on weekends, so that everyone can attend. http://maps.google.com.au/maps/place?hl=en-GB&rlz=1T4GGHP_en-GBAU455AU455&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=cfa+mernda&fb=1&gl=au&hq=cfa+mernda&cid=10625401031164705610&ei=ZLRVT7e0GcuViQfqotXVCQ&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=placepage-link&resnum=4&ved=0CFIQ4gkwAw

Last night, our crews were called to help a very small and curious feline who had found themselves stuck inside a wall 🐾

Thankfully, our crew was able to safely free this little one without any injuries before handing them over to the lovely team at VicVets in Whittlesea for some well-deserved care.

It’s not every day we get called to rescue a cat from a wall, but we are always ready to help our community in every situation !

Ray Rosales, what an incredible man you are !

It comes as no surprise to us that today, you have been recognised with the COTA Victoria Senior Achiever Award at the 2026 Victorian Senior of the Year Awards.

The person you are and the time, care and heart you pour into our brigade and the wider community is truly humbling. We have witnessed you show up for the strongest people in our community, but also for the most vulnerable, without hesitation, no matter the time of day or how much you already have on your plate.

You are a true role model in kindness and humanity. You remind us that the smallest acts of care can leave the biggest impact, and that choosing to make the people around you feel seen, supported and valued is one of the greatest gifts one can give.

A truly well-deserved award, Ray. You continue to go above and beyond for anyone, often without asking for anything in return. We are so lucky to have you as part of our brigade and our community.

The world needs more people like you ❤️

Hats off to Trevor, who completed his consolidation today alongside several other new recruits in our group 👏

This is a huge milestone, meaning he’s now just one step away from becoming a fully qualified firefighter and being ready to support our community when the bells drop.

In a few weeks, Trevor will sit his final assessment to demonstrate his skills and knowledge in fire suppression.

You’re doing a fantastic job, Trevor and we can’t wait to have you officially on the truck 🚒

Emergency markers are crucial for your survival - PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THEM OUT !

With the hot weather upon us, we don’t have time to waste. Emergency markers help us get to you faster so we can help you in life-threatening situations.

At 0614 yesterday morning, our crews responded to a house fire in Epping to support Epping Fire Brigade .

Crews from multiple brigades, including Wollert Fire Brigade and Doreen CFA, also attended to assist. Due to the unsafe condition of the structure, TB7 was deployed to support operations.

Attending significant structure fires can be emotional, but we’re always proud to support our local community and brigades whenever we’re needed.

A big thank you to all crews involved for their teamwork and commitment to keeping our community safe 👨‍🚒🚒

On hot, dry and windy days, a fire can spread very quickly, and embers can travel up to 20 metres, starting spot fires well ahead of the main fire and putting lives and property at risk.

Did you know that on a Total Fire Ban day, you cannot use hot tools outdoors ? Even a small spark could start a fire and have catastrophic consequences.

Not sure what you can and can’t do ?
Come down this Sunday and have a chat with us.

You might have the chance to win one of three major prizes !
