Readers across Australia are discovering a powerful truth: their love of books can change lives. Through the ShelterBox Australia Book Club, every page they turn helps fund emergency shelter and essential aid, including tents, water filters, solar lights and mosquito nets, for families left with nowhere to live after tropical storms, earthquakes and conflict.
Each book is carefully chosen to reflect the cultures, challenges and resilience of people experiencing displacement. These stories open windows into lives readers may never otherwise encounter, building connection, empathy and understanding with every chapter.
For a small monthly donation, members become part of a nationwide community that votes on a hand-picked shortlist every six weeks. They read the chosen book in whatever way suits them, whether thatβs curling up with a library copy, supporting a local bookshop, downloading an e-book or listening on the go, then meet online for thoughtful discussion, shared learning, and author events.
ShelterBox was founded by a Rotary club and has supported more than three million people in around 100 countries.
