DON'T Be a Silly Sausage!... you might want that tender smoky meat. But put the beads down.

It’s Friday. It’s a Total Fire Ban. It’s Catastrophic fire weather.

Somewhere, there is a mate staring lovingly at their offset smoker or weber. They are holding a bag of charcoal. They are thinking, "Low and slow isn't really a fire, is it?"

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️STOP⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

Let’s be crystal clear: Solid Fuel BBQs (Wood, Charcoal, Briquettes) are BANNED today. No exceptions. No "just a quick sear."

If it burns solid fuel, it stays cold. If you light it, we have to come over. And if we have to interrupt our lunch to put out your lunch, we won't be polite about it.

Gas or Electric? Maybe. But there are strict rules you need to follow (like having a hose ready and a clear area).

Solid Fuel? Absolutely not.

Check the rules before you turn a k**b or strike a match: 👉 https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/fire-bans-ratings-and-restrictions/can-i-or-cant-i

Do you know a silly sausage who needs to accept that today is their salad day. 👇

Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund (GERF) is known for providing emergency assistance to Gippsland families after natural disasters.

But did you know they’re also committed to helping our community build long-term resilience against future events.

That’s why they’re partnering with the Resilient Building Council to offer FREE expert home resilience assessments to 10 volunteer homeowners across Gippsland. These assessments will identify practical ways to strengthen your home against bushfires, floods, storms and more.

As part of this initiative, your home will be featured as a (confidential) case study to help others in the community understand how small, affordable changes can make a big impact — and inspire resilience across the region.

Plus, this program is supported by insurers and banks, opening the door to potential discounts on insurance and mortgage rates for resilient homes.

To get involved, email [email protected] with a brief description of your home.

The Metung CFA is deeply saddened by the passing of one of its long serving members Vicki Jesty.
Vicki was a loved member of the Metung Community at large, with abroad diversity of interests, yoga, dressage, bowls and photography to name a few, but most especially to Metung Fire Brigade.
Vicki was a respected member of our Metung CFA family. She served on our fundraising and social committees and was always available whenever a hand was needed.
Vicki is wife and partner of our Brigade’s long time secretary John Miller.
It is to John, we not only offer our deepest sympathy and condolences but also our unending support at this very sad time.

A shout out to our member Anthony who travelled to Darwin as part of a training contingent. Here's the CFA report from Linkedin:

With the top end of Australia potentially heading into another bad fire season, CFA volunteer instructors were deployed to deliver foundational firefighting course Fire Fighting 1 and Suppress Wildfire training on behalf of Bushfires NT to new volunteers and park rangers.

CFA volunteers Andrew Stinchcombe and April Padbury were deployed to Alice Springs, while Anthony Armistead and Phil Graham were deployed to Darwin.

This is the second year CFA has supported our colleagues in Darwin and it's great to see CFA skills and knowledge being an asset to others, while our members are able to gain so much from the experience interstate! Well done team!

International day of rural women
Rural women are the backbone of their communities often juggling various responsibilities to keep everything running smoothly. They’ve volunteered their time and skills to support local schools sporting clubs and community events. Whether it’s organising fundraising mentoring young people or providing care for elderly their contributions are invaluable. These women come from more walks of life being farmers and business owners to community leaders and caregivers. Their dedication and resilience ensure that small rural communities remain vibrant and connected.

This day is dedicated to the millions of women living in remote rural places and celebrates the achievements and contributions of these women. These resilient women play a crucial role in rural community development.

District 11 would like to acknowledge & celebrate all of our rural women!
