David Completes Emerging Leaders Program
Yesterday 11 of District 11s Emerging Leaders graduated from the 6-month Program at celebration dinner at Club Eastwood in Bairnsdale, including our own David Wijsma.
As a culmination of their learning, theses members completed a group exercise in a secret location west of Johnsonville, in the morning before finishing their final session back at Bairnsdale Station.
Acting ACFO Glenn Harrap and DPC Chair Kathryn Williams presented the awards.
Graduates included:
Mel Zagami (Toorloo), Chris Richards (Swifts Creek), Michelle Raeburn (Hillside) & Andrew Travis (Ensay), Anthony Martin (Bruthen), Maria Edwards (Bemm), Sheridyn Grayham (Mt Taylor), Simon Ellis (Bairnsdale), Simon Rijs (Bengworden), Graham Pickering (Bairnsdale) and David Wijsma (Metung).
Congratulations to these members!
(There were a few members who were unable to complete the course due to work commitments and they will be offer a chance to complete with next years group)
These members completed a number of sessions in 3 weekends and 2 evening sessions which include the following topics –
• People Management
• Brigade Management and Legislation
• Incident Management
• AIIMS Awareness
• Community Engagement
• Succession Planning Framework
• After Action Reviews
• Productive Meetings
• HBDI – Understanding yourself under stress
• Wellness & Peer Support
As well as hearing from panels of experts from CFA, DEECA, VicPol & Army about leading under pressure, experiences of a captain, experiences at big jobs and all sorts of topics in between.
We would like to throw out a HUGE thankyou to all those members who gave up their time to facilitate, present, organise or sit on a panel in this Program. Especially Chris Seymour and Aaron Lee who are the driving force behind this Program.
There were over 25 CFA volunteers who helped to make this program come to light this year, along with nearly all of the staff in the District 11 office, regional and state staff, from Organizational Development, Community Education, Training, VST, Vegetation Management and a Board Member!
If any members of Metung Brigade are interested in taking their leadership to the next level, please look out for the 2025 Program Expression of Interest. It would be great if every brigade had representative.
