ππ
We'd like to thank the Tasmanian community for their support during the Total Fire Ban in southern Tasmania yesterday.
Community cooperation played an important role in reducing the risk of fires during a period of heightened fire danger.
π₯ During the Total Fire Ban, 23 fires were reported statewide, but were quickly contained with the support of firefighting aircraft and ground crews.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast elevated fire danger weather for the remainder of the week, and as a result, weβve declared a statewide suspension in the issuing of fire permits from 2am yesterday (4 February), until 2am Saturday, 7 February 2026.
β No fire permits will be issued for burns during that period of suspension.
β Any fire permits already issued for fires during this period are cancelled, as conditions will be unsafe for burning.
π₯π¦ If you have burned in the past week, check that your fire is fully extinguished. Soak it, stir it, soak it again.
π Given the likely conditions across much of the state, burns that are under one cubic metre, which do not require a permit, are strongly discouraged.
We're prepared to respond to fires across the landscape, and we encourage every Tasmanian to review their bushfire plan.
π If you donβt have a plan, visit fire.tas.gov.au to prepare one to keep you and your loved ones safe.
π₯If you see smoke, flames, or anything that looks like a fire re-igniting, please donβt assume someone else has reported it.
