As a family running a small hospitality business there are always going to be ups and downs.
With the arrival of the 25th year for milawa bread we could not be more proud of the journey it has seen growing in a small country town to the business it is today.
Started with our founder Adam travelling to France to study regional and sourdough breads of France.
Our direction has never wavered about being curious about the whole journey from grain to the loaf of bread. Our milling program started in 2016 along with being fascinated about grain diversity.
COVID needs no explanation what it has done to small businesses. And the lack of support and acknowledgement what effect it has really had both short and long term from government.
As we transitioned from COVID our family started a new journey with Florence going through cancer.
The pressure put upon us both mentally and physically trying to keep our business going has left many scars.
And now to clear some of the gossip that is floating around. We thought it an appropriate time to discuss our new journey our family is going through.
Adam, our founder. Husband to Florence and father to Madeleine and Louis is now on leave fighting a progressive autoimmune disorder.
For someone that never stopped and has been the hart and soul of the business. It’s time Adam steps back to look after his health.
You may see him some mornings popping into grab a coffee and do the rounds of saying hello to all the staff. But rest is at present one of the things most needed.
If you have not noticed, we have set up a small and growing camera museum. And a photography darkroom and camera repair space for the boss to spend some art therapy time.
For those of you that have an interest in photography or cameras. Please reach out. I am sure Adam would love when he is up to it to sit down over a coffee and talk about his other passion.
We want to thank all of our staff both past over the last few years of Florence’s cancer journey and now Adam’s journey in the running of the day to day operations. Without them. It all would not be possible.
