Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mums within Milton Rural Fire Brigade and throughout our wider community. 🌸

Today, we recognise and thank the mothers who play such an important role within our brigade family, whether that’s responding on the fireground or supporting behind the scenes.

We also want to acknowledge the mums at home who support our members and volunteers. The families behind emergency service volunteers make sacrifices too, and your support, patience and understanding are an important part of what keeps brigades like ours going.

To all the mums in our brigade family and community, thank you for everything you do, both on and off the fireground.

Happy Mother’s Day from Milton Rural Fire Brigade ❤️🚒

Today NSW RFS - Milton Brigade held our Annual General Meeting – an important milestone for our brigade each year.

It’s a chance to come together, reflect on the year that’s been, and look ahead to what’s next. While we recognise members stepping into functional roles, and thank those who have recently stepped down, this time of year is really about acknowledging every single member of our brigade.

Our brigade doesn’t run on its own. It takes the collective effort, time, and commitment of our volunteers to ensure we remain capable, skilled, and ready to respond when our community needs us.

To those stepping into new roles – congratulations. 🎉
To those stepping down – thank you for your dedication and contribution.👏

And to all of our members – your ongoing commitment is what keeps this brigade strong, your time is valued and appreciated. 🚒

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Lest We Forget

This morning, members of Milton Rural Fire Brigade attended the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at the Milton Ulladulla Ex-Servos Club, where a wreath was laid in honour of those who have served and sacrificed for our country.

We are proud to stand alongside our community in remembering the courage and resilience that define the ANZAC spirit.

Our members will also be in attendance at the Milton march and later service today. If you’re in town, we encourage you to come along.

🚒 Brigade Call Out – Garrads Lane

Just before midday today, our volunteers responded to a call out on Garrads Lane involving a tractor fire.

On arrival, crews found a tractor fully alight, with a trailer and large slasher. The fire had also spread to grass beneath the trailer and along the roadside.

Our crew of four quickly got to work, deploying hose lines to bring the fire under control and prevent further spread into surrounding grass. While the tractor was unfortunately destroyed, crews were able to successfully save the trailer and slasher.

We were supported by colleagues from Bawley Point RFS , who arrived as the fire was in the final stages of containment and provided valuable water support. Manyana Brigade also attended incident.

A big thank you to all of our volunteers and supporting brigades for their quick response and teamwork today, giving up your time to protect the community does not go unnoticed, bravo👏

⏰ Change your clock. Check your smoke alarm, Milton.

As daylight saving comes to an end this weekend, it’s a great reminder to take a few minutes to check your smoke alarms at home.

As we head into the cooler months, we start using heaters, electric blankets and fireplaces more often — and that’s when the risk of house fires can increase.

A working smoke alarm gives you and your family those critical early seconds to get out safely ❤️

✔ Test your smoke alarms
✔ Replace batteries if needed
✔ Give them a quick clean (dust can affect performance)
✔ Make sure you’ve got alarms in key areas of your home

🗓 Sunday 5 April
⏰ Clocks go back at 3:00am

It’s a simple habit — when the clocks change, check your smoke alarms.

🔥 Bush Fire Danger Period Concludes – Key Information for Landholders

As of midnight today, 31 March, the Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) will conclude across the six Districts within the South Eastern Area Command.

While a fire permit may no longer be required, there are still important legal responsibilities in place for anyone planning to burn.

If you intend to conduct a burn, you must:

✔ Notify NSW RFS at least 24 hours prior You can submit your notification online here: 🌐 www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify
✔ Notify your immediate neighbours at least 24 hours prior

This is critical to help prevent unnecessary Triple Zero (000) calls and avoid emergency brigade responses to planned burns.

⚠️ Important: If you live within a Fire and Rescue NSW Fire District, a fire permit is required year-round. Permits can be applied for via the Fire and Rescue NSW website.

Before lighting up, ensure you:

• Check weather conditions
• Have appropriate resources on hand
• Monitor the fire at all times
• Remain in attendance until the fire is fully extinguished

For more information on BFDP and safe burning practices, visit: 🌐 www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP

Your actions help keep our community safe and support our volunteers.

👩‍🍳 SUPPORT YOUR COMMUNITY – JOIN THE RFS CATERING BRIGADE 👨‍🍳

Our friends at Shoalhaven Catering Brigade are putting the call out for community members to join their incredible team.

Situated alongside our brigade in Milton, this dedicated group of volunteers play a vital role in supporting members and the community during incidents and operations, keeping crews fuelled, supported and ready to go when it matters most.

Not everyone wants to jump on a fire truck 🚒 and that’s okay. The RFS has many important roles, and catering is one of them.

If you enjoy being part of a team, giving back to your community, and making a real difference behind the scenes, this could be the perfect fit for you.

Today we celebrate the incredible women who contribute to our community and to the NSW Rural Fire Service.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Balance the Scales” reminds us of the importance of ensuring every woman and girl feels safe, heard and empowered to shape her own future.

Here at Milton Rural Fire Brigade, women play an important role in supporting our brigade and community, whether that’s stepping onto the truck to respond to incidents, helping guide the brigade through leadership roles, and supporting the many activities that keep our brigade connected to the community.

We also want to acknowledge the partners, wives, mothers, daughters and supporters who stand beside our volunteers. Your support plays an important role in making community service possible.

While we are proud of the women in our brigade, we know there is always room for more.

If you’re a woman in our community who has ever thought about joining the RFS, we encourage you to take that first step. Whether you’re interested in operational firefighting or supporting the brigade in other ways, there is a place for you at Milton RFS. Sometimes all it takes is that first step. If you’ve ever been curious about volunteering with Milton RFS, feel free to reach out or come and have a chat with us.

Strong Women… may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.
