Notice of Hazard Reduction Burn
Warranmadhaa National Park
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) together with NSW Rural Fire Service will be conducting a hazard reduction burn of approximately 72 hectares in Warranmadhaa National Park (the new Koala National Park along the Georges River) in Minto Heights to reduce the bushfire hazard to the surrounding areas.
This burn is scheduled for Monday 13 April 2026 however this date is weather dependent and the hazard reduction burn may be held anytime within the following 21 days subject to suitable conditions.
The burn is expected to run over 2-3 days, followed by patrols for consecutive days to ensure the fire is extinguished and hazards are removed. It is normal for fire and smoke to be visible during this period as larger fuels burn out.
The burn area is bounded to the west by Duncan St, Hansens Rd, Howard Rd and Florence Avenue in Minto Heights and in the east by the Georges River. All tracks and trails within the burn area will be closed for the duration of the burn. Informal tracks and trails in the area will also be closed until assessed as safe.
The risk to properties during the burn is low, however it is recommended that property owners ensure their properties are well prepared to reduce the risk from embers:
• Remove leaf litter from gutters
• Ensure pets are secure within your boundary and have areas that provide them shelter and protection
• Close all windows and remove washing from your lines on the day of the burn
If you have asthma or any respiratory condition, we recommend you stay indoors or plan to be away during the burn period.
