The excitement is building, the books are ready, and our Mystery Readers are getting ready to share their love of reading with us! 🎉📖

Our very first Mystery Reader can’t make it in person, so they’ve already filmed their special video, featuring a much-loved family favourite bedtime story — one that can be enjoyed by all kids (and pets too! 🐶🐱). We can’t wait for you to discover who it is! 👀🤫

📚✨ Book Week Excitement is Building! ✨📚

We are getting ready for an action-packed Book Week at Mirriwinni State School, and this year we have something extra special planned… 👀📖

🌟 Daily Mystery Readers! 🌟
Each day during Book Week, we will welcome a special guest reader into our school to share a favourite story, a chapter from a much-loved book, or a little piece of their reading journey with our students.

But who could they be? 🤔
A community member? A special visitor? Someone you know? A secret book lover hiding in plain sight? 📚✨

We want to hear your guesses… Who do you think will be joining us as our Mystery Readers?🕵️‍♀️📖

Don’t forget:
✅ Premier’s Reading Challenge forms need to be completed and returned by Friday 28 August. We can’t wait to celebrate all the students who have reached their reading goals! 🎉
✅ Friday 28 August is also our Book Week Dress Up Day! 🎭📚 Get your costumes ready and start thinking about how you will bring your favourite book character, reading hero or book-inspired idea to life!

It’s going to be a fantastic celebration of stories, imagination and the joy of reading. We can’t wait to share the Book Week fun with our school community! 📚💫

🎳✨ Bowling Excursion Reminder – Tomorrow! ✨🎳

Just a reminder that tomorrow our students will be heading to the Babinda Bowls Club for a fun morning of bowling! 🎉

🚌 Bus departure: 9:10am
🏫 Return to school: Approximately 11:15am

Students will need to bring:
✅ A hat 🧢
✅ A water bottle 💧

A fruit break will be provided during the excursion. Students will have their lunch and eat as normal once they return to school. 🍎

Please note: If students arrive late and have missed the bus, families will need to arrange transport and drop students directly to the Babinda Bowls Club.

We are looking forward to a great morning of learning new skills, being active and having fun! 🎳😊

Get ready to unleash your super reading power! 💥

To celebrate Book Week, all Mirriwinni State School students are invited to dress up on Friday 28 August as their favourite Reading Hero!

Whether you're inspired by a brave book character, a magical wizard, a fearless adventurer or a superhero who loves to read, we'd love to see your creativity shine. Need some inspiration?

👀 We’ve had a few community members reach out after noticing that our much-loved swings have been removed from the playground.

Don't worry – this is all part of the exciting upgrade! 🎉

The old swings have made way for brand new swings, which have now been installed under cover. That means our students will be able to enjoy swinging even during our wet tropical weather! 🌧️➡️😊

We know many of our past and present students have wonderful memories of the old playground, and we can't wait to see a new generation creating even more on the upgraded equipment.

The countdown is on... it's not long now until our students get to explore, climb, swing and play on their amazing new playground!

Our students have been doing an amazing job reading their way through the Premier's Reading Challenge! 🎉 A huge congratulations to everyone who has already completed their reading records and returned them to school. We are so proud of your commitment to reading! 🌟

There's still plenty of time to join in or finish your challenge. Keep reading at home and remember to record every book you read.

🌟 Learning Beyond the Classroom 🌟

At Mirriwinni State School, we are so fortunate to have learning opportunities that connect our students with the wider community.

Last week, our students travelled to Babinda Bowls Club for a fun and engaging lawn bowls lesson with local community members as part of their HPE program with Mr Richardson. There were plenty of smiles, lots of laughter and, of course, some impressive bowling skills on display! 🎳😊

Experiences like these are a wonderful example of how we are bringing our Annual Implementation Plan to life by building strong partnerships that enhance student educational achievement, belonging and engagement. Learning alongside community members helps our students develop new skills, build confidence and strengthen connections beyond the school gates.

A huge thank you to the welcoming volunteers at Babinda Bowls Club for sharing their time, knowledge and enthusiasm with our students.

We had an amazing time and can't wait for our next visit on Wednesday 19 August! 💙💛

What an incredible day celebrating the 50th Babinda NAIDOC Day with our friends from McDonnell Creek State School Bartle Frere State School and Bellenden Ker State School! 💛🖤❤️

Our students had a fantastic time immersing themselves in the celebrations, watching amazing traditional dancers, enjoying live music, getting their faces painted, trying their hand at spear throwing, collecting lots of goodies from the community stalls, and, most importantly, learning more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and traditions.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this special event such a memorable experience for our students. We are grateful to have been part of such a wonderful community celebration.

We can't wait to be back again next year! 🌿
