Our Grade 6s watched in awe as famous (and one of APPS’ favourites) author, Clare Saxby shared ideas and processes that she uses to write her books. Our Grade 6s have explored her work deeply over the past 3 weeks and have developed a strong understanding of her work. Some students even shared their own Clare Saxby style writing… and Clare was once again blown away by the talent here at APPS.

3/4 Hoop Time was another great day for APPS teams. Our All Star boys took out a heart-stopping grand final by 2pts, Future Stars boys won an all APPS grand final. Future Stars girls lost a close semi-final and our Rookies team received wonderful feedback from parents and coaches about how much they loved being out in court and learning about basketball. Thank you to all the parents who helped out by coaching our teams.

Veils, hair rollers, bow ties, bizarre answers to questions and even more bizarre dance moves were on show last weekend at the APPS Community Trivia Night.

A huge thank you to everyone who dressed up, went full trivia mode and made the event another memorable one. These events are a wonderful reminder that our community knows how to come together and that they always turn up. Our FACE Committee did a stellar job of making it happen!

A massive congratulations goes out to our student who came 2nd in Victoria in the Parliament Prize competition. His video about why all Aussie kids should have the opportunity to learn music was outstanding and we are so incredibly proud of him. How awesome to have the Hawthorn AFLW players at APPS last week. The were terrific as they shared their experiences as professional athletes with our students. Laura Stone, Jess Vukic, Matilda Van Berkel, Annabelle Embelton and Mikaylah Antony can come back to APPS anytime for that goal kicking competition that was interrupted by rain.

This week, some of our Grade 4 students took part in the ‘Creating change: social message making’ workshop at ACMI. Their collaboration, creativity and understanding of effectively sharing important social messages using media was incredible. We received terrific feedback from ACMI staff and we’re looking forward to getting back to ACMI soon. And look out for the cartoons at an upcoming assembly.

Our Grade 4s have been learning about how seasons occur and the impacts weather and climate have on places around earth, and where better to do than Scienceworks. Students had a blast! They were super engaged with so many different activities and seeing what they’ve been learning in class happening in practice.
